So with the rumours this evening it would seem purslow is possibly the man liebherr wants to replace cortèse. Experienced in handling sale of clubs.... Interesting choice.
Mustn't jump to conclusions...though you could be right. The main reason surely is that he has been a CEO at a PL club.
Seems a reasonable candidate for the job. Knows about Football and has experience. Who knows though....
If he does come in, I hope its because the club is being sold. I would be a bit worried if he came in for the long term as his transfer record is questionable.
It seems to me that whoever gets the job, some on here will automatically take a dislike to him/her, and come out with all sorts of conspiracy theories!
I think he's referring to the Carroll / Henderson transfers. If so then it shows he will splash the cash and surely the actual players bought were Dalglish's fault. If Purslow comes in and KL gives him a budget then I'm pretty sure that he can deliver. It is more down to Reed, Pochettino to put their input into who the targets are.
You could replace Henderson with Downing I suppose. I don't really count the Carroll transfer as a bad one. I heard that Liverpool told Chelsea Torres would cost whatever Newcastle wanted for Carroll plus £15m. So for me Chelsea paid that £35m fee, not Liverpool. Even if you count Carroll as a failure selling Torres for £50m was a stroke of genius!
Yeah maybe, the Liverpool fans didn't have much good to say about him. Hopefully I've just read some posts from the sort of creatures you'd find on Saintsweb.
I don't think he was there when those deals happened. He did appoint Roy Hodgson as manager though, which didn't work out too well, and was apparently behind the signing of Joe Cole, and Aquilani was also bought whilst he was there
Guys - the Liverpool perspective is that he's a tosser concerned with his self image mainly (don't even dare say it CBK!) They think if he's left to broker major commercial deals he's fine, but his ego makes him want to get involved in transfers, in which case he's awful. Sacked Rafa, got Hodgson. The proceeded to get Joe Cole on £100k per week.....so......
My vote goes to the ex chairman at Arsenal, David Dein. No idea what he is upto now, but to me, he would be the perfect candidate.
You've both given Wenger a semi. Might as well sign all our youngsters with special "Arsenal release clauses"
I would be delighted if we signed a CEO of substance as that would indicate long term thinking...would worry if an interim one was put into place.
I guess it's only natural rumours will point to people working within football, but a CEO doesn't necessarily need to know much about the game, as Cortese himself demonstrated. Personally I think it's more likely Liebherr will appoint someone she knows, or someone who is recommended by someone she knows, and that probably means someone from outside of football.
