Playing for your boyhood team is one thing, ambition is another. Unless you're fortunate like Giggs, Scholes, Carra or Gerrard and your boyhood club is a successful one then there is a decision to be made between the two.

fair point gerez,

wonder what was going through the mind of le tis then as he could have gone wherever he liked and he was talented enough.

dont think it was lack of ambition for him, he was just happy where he was and saw no reason to leave.

I think he did lack ambition. That doesn't mean he wasn't ambitious, it means he wasn't prepared to do anything to win honours. Its also worth remembering that Saints were in the top flight whilst Le Tissier was there too, they could have won a cup or two but they never seemed likely to mount a title challenge.

Soneone could say Carra and Gerrard lacked ambition because they didn't move to get a league title medal but Liverpool were on the verge of a challenge (and finished second in two) for the majority of their time here.

I also think winning something with your boyhood club is worth more than winning lots with someone else. Shearer could have gone to Man Utd and won four or five PL medals but he choose Newcastle as it would have meant more. If I had the option of one PL medal with Liverpool or ten with someone else, I'd choose Liverpool. I'll let you decide whether that falls into boyhood or ambition <laugh>

Is Purslow that bad guys? I know he was with you guys during the darkest hour but is he incapable?

Such a very depressing day for us today....

He's a w*nker. Cares more about his image and the good of the football club.

From a commercial perspective - he's very good and he can broker mega deals. For that, I thank him.

However, he wants to get to involved with the football side. Sacking Rafa was a massive mistake, but replacing him with Roy is unforgivable. Then wanting to sign players like Joe Cole just shows you how much he knows of the game.

In summary - if he sticks to what he knows i.e. commercial deals, then he can be very good.

But his ego will want him to take control of footballing matters.

If you believe the rags most of the Southampton team is up for grabs and trying to get out.

While the manager stays I think they will carry on, possibly getting rid of Lambert.

If the manager walks then a few of the players may well want a move.

Rags are dumb.... its a window so they want to talk up one guy leaving into a whole team going.... contracts are contracts and nobody is going anywhere most likely... summers a different matter.

Tiss was going to move to Spurs but his (then) wife stopped him as the family didn't want to move to London.

I presume that their fall away and the "new" owner who hasn't a care about football in the world doesn't give a damn and their spanish manager is wanting out as a result

Harsh?

yeah but they came in and spent heavily to get to where they got to, changed manager then... oh i don't care owner comes in for father....

who the F knows.

but on purslow... he got an ego trip when running LFc. he's the guy that hired hodgson and did sign joe cole cos he thought he knew best.

Levy at spurs is the same but i think purslow is much worse cos at least levy has the sense to buy good players.

Eh? Not getting this, sorry?

so he did lack ambition then <laugh>

didn't actually know that, but no reason why i would i suppose, glad you kept hold of him, fair play to mrs le tiss <ok> london is a **** hole and they wouldn't have liked it.

I was going to say he could have commuted as I didn't realise it was as far (89miles) away as that <yike>

Stan Collymore did it from West Midlands to Liverpool which is 98 miles <ok>

Well they broke up a few years later!

More comically, Ian Branfoot tried to do a swap deal with Norwich involving Tiss - he was offering £2m PLUS Le Tissier for Mark Robins........

No, really.....!

How impressed was you to find out about his attempted betting syndicate?

The only thing Tiss does better than a 30 yard volley is getting his foot firmly stuck in his mouth. In fairness, that was in reality a fuss about very little. Ill-advised, certainly. Stupid, definitely. Harmful? Nah.....

It was stupid of him and the others that were involved, but probably equally stupid to admit it. You're right though, it was unlikely to hurt anyway with it only applying to the first minute of the game. However, it could have effected Southampton if they hadn't got the ball out of play, a few of the players on the pitch will have been gutted to have lost their money <laugh>

aparantly pochechino (spelling?) is staying, so was that all media mischief or no smoke without fire and a u turn?

He apparently made a threat of walking away when there was talk of Cortese leaving a few months back. Pochettino hadn't been at the club long at the time so things will have changed since then. Great example as to why these threats should never be issued.

This is funny, in a perverse way. Saints are in trouble and here we are making sympathetic noises while circling round their players like a pack of vultures.
