I've been to St Petersburg - nasty, vile city. People are rudest you could meet and the atmospehere is really, really menacing. It's much nicer than Manchester.

I got mugged in St P'burg, still loved it though. Plus, it's like St Tropez in comparison to Moscow.

Ballon D'or

What a useless award now I've seen how the voting goes.

http://metro.co.uk/2014/01/14/no-cr...most-suspicious-and-ridiculous-votes-4262220/

Rubbish article to be honest. Firstly, obviously people are going to vote tactically so they or their mates win, it's simple human nature.

The journo criticises peoples picks simply on the fact that Messi and Ronaldo weren't their automatic picks.

Ridiculous – what were you thinking?

Ivan Khan (Mozambique): Lahm, Ronaldo, Lewandowski

Perfectly sensible vote, Lahm's captained his team to a treble this season. If others didn't inflate the ability of strikers over defenders it might actually be a credible award<doh>

I never had any problems in St Petersburg.

Mind you, this was the one in Florida, not Russia...

Mi sister was married to a guy from West Croydon, and my uncle owned a shop there, never had a problem there <ok>

Cash Converters or Chicken Cottage? They usually do okay in WesCro.

It does highlight that the voting is not very objective.

Yes it's not a surprise to see that Lloris votes for another 'keeper and a Spurs player or that African players picked another African player, or that Real and Barca players selected their own but if we accept that's the case then a close vote will be decided by how many friends each player has in the vote. I haven't looked at the rest of the voting but if too many do it tactically then what we have is a glorified Eurovision song contest. Also, it is a bit worrying that someone thought Thiago ****in' Silva should be player of the year.

Ronaldo was the worthy winner though.

No doubt about that this year. To my mind Messi is JUST the better player, only just though because the two of them are utterly phenomenal. Ronaldo deserved it this year because Messi has spent too much time injured on the sidelines to justify him winning it this year. Ronaldo is the complete footballer and a superb athlete, which to me makes it all the more remarkable that Messi can outscore him because CR has so much going for him.

We're very lucky to be able to watch them in the same league going head to head every season. Long may it continue <ok>

Agree. Sometimes i don't understand how Messi is so good. Ronaldo on the other hand you can see exactly why.
Easily the 2 best players in my time i would say, including Zidane

Messi's close control and touch are superior; Ronaldo is the better athlete.

Ronaldo can't waltz past 3 or 4 defenders as if the ball is tied to his foot; Messi couldn't have scored the goals Ronaldo got for Portugal in Sweden.

It's like asking who is the better tennis player - Federer or Nadal? Most would say Federer because of his skills - but Nadal would be the opponent you'd least like to face.

Not exactly rivals but Nicola Cortese has left Southampton.

Looks like their run is over as Mauricio Pochettino is expected to leave too.

All thanks to someone who doesn't even like football having the keys to the family vault.

Damn, we could've done with a repeat of bagging their manager and best defender. For Hoddle and Dean Richards, read Pochettino and Luke Shaw...

Apprently it is over the sale of the club,as the woman who now owns them is not interested in football

She's selling up?

i'm guessing she will make a big profit considering where they are now to when her late husband took over.

Shame really, they were doing well.
