Liverpool have made an approach to Benfica regarding the availability of Ola John.
Reds' boss Brendan Rodgers is keen on the idea of signing the 21-year-old winger after talks between Benfica and Ajax collapsed.
KOPTALK sources have verified that contact has been made with the Portuguese outfit within the last few days to determine the valuation of the player and that notorious Italian super-agent Mino Raiola (pictured above - represents the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mario Balotelli) previously instigated talks with agents representing Liverpool to avoid direct contact.
Liverpool are in the market for a winger and John is a player who has been mooted. However, despite the approach, we understand that Rodgers prefers Ajax's Viktor Fischer (19) but that Anfield officials feel a move for him will prove more difficult. A possible move for Fischer in the summer looks more likely than now but strong interest from Chelsea and Manchester United could thwart that.
Liverpool's transfer committee are said to be haggling on several fronts at the moment hence the lack of early progress this window. We expect activity later in the window but hope any bluffing doesn't backfire because Rodgers is desperate to bring in a defender and a wide man.The official line is that Liverpool are prepared to wait until the summer to do their transfer business but we believe that is a negotiating tactic and that we have every intention of recruiting this month.
