At least the reports suggesting an enquiry about Ozil, albeit he turned it down, does mean that we are actively looking to fill the midfield. The other new signings are welcome but I was a little concerned that SAF was going to overerlook the one area of the pitch where we are in real need of new blood.

As Sneider has effectively ruled himslef out, does that mean it is a one horse race ie Modric, or are there other valid contenders?

When was this please?

Ozil has been at Carrington for a medical for a year now so if he were to sign he would have done so by now

i was scared for a moment until it said 'Last updated at 11:31 AM on 9th July 2010'

Have i gone back in time? Is there a joke that has gone over my head?

Let's try the more recent reports. Like from two hours ago:

The fact is that SAF has been looking for a new CM for a while now. But it's a difficult position to fill - most of the best ones (Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Ozil, Schweinsteiger) are either not for sale or have no interest in moving. The only ones that look like moving are Sneijder and Modric, and neither of those is as simple as the Jones transfer was. But the summer is still young - plenty of time to get the right man <ok>

I think we should just buy another defensive midfielder and play Anderson in a more advanced creative role. The supposed targets (other than Ozil) don't exactly fill me with confidence.

I think that might be a good move too. We lack real bite in the middle of the park. I don't want someone who just kicks and hacks eg Lass but would like someone who would add steal and drive to the team. Anderson has looked good when given freedom to get forward and influence things.

Anderson's shooting is also better when he's closer to goal. If he's one-on-one with the keeper he can easily slot those side-footers into the bottom corner of the net.

Well that's me well and truly confused by the whole affair - I won't worry too much if I hear that Chavski have bid for Modric now.

Sneijder said he wasn't going to leave, then three days later he said he wasn't sure. Seems like maybe he was willing to commit to Inter, but Inter weren't ready to commit to him, i.e. they are considering cashing in on him to free up funds to strengthen in other areas. Maybe they've realised that they're too reliant on him and when he isn't on form, like against Schalke, the rest of their side just isn't good enough.

Sneijder, it appears is having 2nd thoughts and Fergie should try and snap him up.
