Lovren is right footed so it shouldn't be a problem. I think he's played with Hooiveld this season and presumably played on the right of the two then.

I think he had to play right, left and centre that day .... bless Jos. Love him really.

If we could get him hypnotised into thinking he is a better player, he might be worth keeping, I am sure it's a confidence thing! Those og's have damaged him and lowered his self esteem. Reading the criticisms, if in fact he does, won't have helped him, so I blame his detractors, not him. I have to accept that he isn't 1st pick Premier though, but a decent guy for all that, no doubting his enthusiasm.

Yes a top guy and probably great for the team to have around. I agree the OG's must have an effect. He must think everytime there is a corner or freekick here we go again!

It would be great if we could sign Astori which would save us having to find a top class defender in the summer!

I know our owners are minted but this doesn't mean we have the money now to make the purchase.

I'll be happy when we get a picture of him in the New Forest!

Inter have said they aren't after Osvaldo.

I've seen a few clubs "linked" with a loan move for Demba Ba. I'd love it if we just bought him.

Ref Ba/Dyer/Fletcher etc, etc ad nauseam, apart from Jack Cork (who never actually played for Chelsea) when is the last time we bought anyone from a Premier League team? It's simply not our style. Players are on view to a huge audience of potential buyers so are generally very ambitiously priced.

I said it about loans and I'll say it again about buying from the premier league: just because it hasn't happened recently doesn't mean it's "not our style" or that given the right circumstances we wouldn't do it.

I'll agree wholeheartedly on loans but regarding purchases I do feel that anyone playing regularly in the Prem is invariably overpriced, which is why I can't see us doing it. We get better quality for less by looking abroad at players like Dejan who aren't as exposed. The prices are less frenzied and the talent less well-known. I guess what I'm saying is that for purchases I can't see the circumstances being right.

It's not going to be common, I'll give you that. I think the fact that players like Puncheon can (apparently) be had for around a million, and others with contractual issues for example (Chelsea got Ba for £7m) show that bargains can occasionally be had.

Puncheon has family issues, Saints being the team we are will let him go for a ok price.

Er, not sure that's relevant. He's not going to be the only player ever to have a reason to be sold for a lower than normal price.

How isn't not relevant? Instead of Saints waiting for a bigger bid they would rather do it to help the player. We hqve done it before and will do it again.

The conversation is about whether it's ever worth it to buy players from the premier league. He was an example of an occasion when a player is available for a reasonable fee from a premier league club. The reason for that is unimportant.

You're right, I hadn't considered cases like that; they do come up occasionally.

Now all we need is Suarez to decide he really wants to live in the New Forest at all costs, regardless of how much he gets paid, next door to his mate RVP....

We've not really had the opportunity. A player would have to be pretty far down the pecking order to move to a newly promoted side. Then we were a struggling side with a new manager last January. That has only given us the summer, but we still were not established and teams are unlikely to sell to their rivals.
Now I think after our good start that a squad player from a top team or a player from a struggling PL team maybe tempted. If the price is right I wouldn't rule out the domestic market.
