Clyne looked very limited going forward against Villa at home last season on the left  .. oh, he scored!

Just a small matter of not playing a RM in our current formation that also stops that. They could do a job in a 4-4-2, but currently our right sided player tends to roam as an AMC, switching regularly.

You really think he'd be a better option than Clyne?

Hence why I said "should we ever decide to go down that route" - I meant formation-wise, rather than position-wise, or Dennis-wise.

No, but if he's going to get a chance in the near future it might as well be in one of our more winnable games when Shaw is in poor form. At least we'd have another left-footed player on the left who isn't Fox. I'd see it as an investment for the future.

Even if shaw isn't bombing forward he's still very solid defensively and considering our poor form at the back I wouldn't drop him. Unless of course he isn't fully fit or something.

Howard Webb has been appointed referee for Southampton v West Brom on Saturday 11 January.

    15:00 Southampton v West Brom Referee = Howard Webb: Assistants = M Mullarkey & S Massey. 4th Official = S Hooper
As I said on the other thread I have no problem with this Referee, except when we are playing Manure, Arsenal or Chelsea and of course I have a lot of respect for one of the assistants, purely on previous preformances.

Massey is great on off side decisions...people mumble, look at the replay and see she was right. We've benefitted from her close calls a couple of times.

    Clyne-----Fonte----Lovren----Shaw

    ---------------Morgan--------------

    Chambers-----Davis------Rodriguez

    ---------------Lallana---------------

    ---------------Rickie----------------

I like Chambers a lot and think he is much better attacking option than Clyne however Clyne is most definitely a superior defensive option. Hard to put my formation down as I have tried above but I would like to ee Chambers employed further forward which (sorry to Cork) means I've dropped him. Then Morgan to move more into the Wanyama defensive role with Davis playing the Morgan role. I guess Chambers and Davis could alternate in sitting in the midfield while the other joins the attack more.

How about Chambers at left back? I know he played there for a bit against Tottenham. Would be great if he could play on either side long term. Probably a bit too much too soon.

Possible, but I always feel better with the more experienced player being out of position. Same team as OP please, provided Shaw can last 90m. If not chambers please (with clyne LB).

Despite our poor league form am predicting a comfortable home win, with many first teamers having gained confidence (well, most of those who played!)

Lovren was all over the place against Chelsea from the first minute. He's looked out of sorts in several games recently. The only clean sheet we've had in the last eleven games was without Lovren. The scoreline was 0-0 at half time when Shaw went off. Dropping Shaw would be ludicrous. If Pochettino does make a change in defence it would be Yoshida in for Lovren or Clyne for Chambers.

Eh? Tell me another game he's been "out of sorts" other than Chelsea? He's been imperious in every game other than Chelsea. Suggesting Lovren is dropped for Yoshida is the very worst kind of madness!
