Can we please have a warm and well measured, yet typically thoughtful and cutting post from Tewks please? I reserve the right to make up my mind on whether the Takeover is a good thing or not until I have heard Tewk's interpretation of the news
Did you see the interview with your new owner or more importantly, this bit in particular? Where do you see synergies between Liege and Charlton? For good Charlton players new perspectives. You may be able to play in a club, where they exploit their opportunities better. Young players of standard Liege who still have no chance to play in the first team, can in Charlton gather the experience to play against real men. Moreover, it is for me a part of the training, to learn foreign languages. A professional football player who does not speak several languages, will never make a great career. WTF!!
So it seems that the new owners version of replacing the big screen is a new drainage system http://www.cafc.co.uk/news/article/20130103-plans-to-address-valley-playing-surface-1273864.aspx
Rubbish! Pardew and Parky took us out of this league fast track. It' s all a matter of which direction we want.
Best off luck with the new owner and the inevitable trollfest it will attract. - if you are really unlucky you will also get that prize cock Martin Samuels from the Daily Heil deriding you as the cause of the death of English football and the England team. But he is a West Sham supporter, so it's to be expected...as I said best of luck.
Martin Samuels is one of, if not, the worst journalist I've come across. Him and Darren Lewis from the Mirror
The coaching staff after being offered new contracts last week are set to sign their new contracts at the beginning of next week. We will also be looking to bring in this guy from Standard Liege as part of the new "link". Reza Ghoochannejhad , An iranian player.
New broom sweeps clean etc etc. I've heard very Little good about RD so far, so the Jiminez blog about why he sold to this guy comes across as so much hot air. They were two business men haggling over a commodity. One sold, the other bought. Jiminez can waffle on about having found a buyer with a vast knowledge of football, etc etc, but what he found was a business man willing to pay, end of. Now we are left with a new man at the helm. I'm mildly happy as it was becoming obvious a sale was imperative. The new man has a clean sheet for me, so we'll see how he envisions the future of our club. As fans, we all see the club as success=profit+happiness, but in the strange world of international economics, 2+2 does'nt always equal four if you've got a good accountant and can write off your losses as a tax asset. My one clear feeling is that RD is NOT a Charlton fan, and his decisions will be based on his own view of profit and loss. I've not a clue what the future will hold, but while I think it is now brighter than it was ten days ago, it's still unclear. The adventure continues, and the optimist in me is smiling, but we'll see how long the smile lasts.
Bit worried about these players we are bein linked with if true would they be CP signings. Can't see him wanting to fill the team with Turks swedes and Iranians to be honest
We haven't have much luck with our previous Turk (Popo), Swede (Pringle) and Iranian (Bagheri). It is always best to make your team out of local players. I am old enough to remember when most teams were, with a sprinkling of Scots added. That is why when we are linked with players I always prefer to see that they originated near to Charlton wherever they may be currently. Foreign players have, in the nature of things, more temptations to leave. If they are doing well, they may attract the attention of a top club in their home country. If not, they are more likely to try their luck in a different country. On the other hand, foreign players are cheaper for similar quality. Whether the saving pays off in the longer run is the gamble and where Wenger and Ferguson have proved masterly.
One immediate benefit of the take-over- the pitch will be dug up at the end of the season and the drainage fixed, which we couldn't afford before.
Maybe they've been foisted on him, but it's up to him whether they play in the first team or not. If Roland tries to pick the team I can't see The Doctor standing for it.
You've neglected the runaway Swedish superstar that was Matt Svensson... But I think there's room for a bit of foreign flair in the side at the moment, Kermit's hardly done us any harm, but it has to be the right sort of character who can deal with a lousy pitch. Not 100% convinced as to the strength of the Belgian league, though, so taking Liege's hand-me-downs surely only has a limited life-expectancy, i.e. might work as a short-term solution but not past the summer. Frankly, I don't mind where a striker comes from, so long as we get one... if we can find one that can put the ball in the back of the net 20 times a season he can be from Croydon for all I care.
I dont mind these guys coming in to the Squad as it adds depth... What I dont want to see is First Team players dropped from the starting lineup just because they're from a parent club - I reckon as well if that happens, well Powell might walk at the end of the season
