Supposedly the Salah deal is practically done and could be announced in the next few days. The club have spoken to Barca about taking a player on loan until the summer, believed to be Tello and not Mascherano or Montoya. Thoughts? I'd be happy with Salah and Tello - really good wide players which would leave us with plenty of options for starters and off the bench. Hopefully we're still after a fullback though...and a CM
Salah would be an awesome addition. Truly awesome. Tello's got massive potential, too, but I'm more excited about Salah, ATM. Agreed that we also need CM and full back ... asap really.
not sure where to post this but thoughts? Newspaper reports today claim that there is unrest at the Liverpool Academy following the recent appointments of former Reds' trio Steve McManaman, Rob Jones and Robbie Fowler. It's your typical speculative stuff that you'd expect to see written on a Sunday but it's worth a mention as a few of you have been discussing it in our forums. Steve Bates in The Mirror, writes that Brendan Rodgers 'has been made aware of tensions between some coaches and the former players, appointed as Under-18 and Under-21 mentors.'It is believed relations have become strained since McManaman and Jones were appointed alongside legendary striker Robbie Fowler in October to help oversee the development of Liverpool's youngsters in a move encouraged by owner John W Henry. But the duo are thought to have caused disquiet with their high-profile presence and willingness to coach from the sidelines during matches.'It is claimed that some of the club's impressionable young players do not know who to treat as their boss – McManaman and his colleagues or coaches Alex Inglethorpe and Neil Critchley, who take training all week.'The article focuses more so on McManaman and then Jones with no criticism of Robbie Fowler at all.
Moreno would be a very good signing. Talented left back in the typical modern day fullback mould - along with Montoya, he is the type of signing that Rodgers want; intelligent, vision, movement, technique. If we could get both Moreno and Montoya, we could be looking at Spain's future fullbacks for years to come. Salah is another talented youngster and I would be happy with him as well. Sidney Sam is another interesting target - again, another talented youngster. The encouraging thing is that all of the targets above may be young, but they have good experience of first team football and at a good level. It's one thing buying a youngster from a lower league and then playing him in our reserves, but the players mentioned above are good enough to get into our first team. Looking forward to this window - but the one I'm hoping for M'Vila!
Fab Romano also mentioned that we have been in contact with Fernando's agent - 4 clubs are interested.
hope you are right Jimmy, not sure if he is an exception to the rule, but look what happened to Wilson, ie playing for Rangers title winners CL football etc and what did we do with him feck all.
There's a brilliant Sidney Sam goal knocking about on Youtube that won goal of the year.. EDIT: here it is...
If that was Ronaldo, Zidane or Pele, that would be played on every highlight reel around the world. Shame it was probably his only good goal. Not seen or heard anything of him until this week.
He's another gifted German footballer - I think I mentioned earlier that he was a youngster but I just checked and he's actually 25! Either way - I think he's a quality player but could turn out to be another Lewis Holtby.
James Pearce ‏@JamesPearceEcho 38m @gregmullane71 I've not heard anything new on Salah mate. Basel want around £12m, #LFC won't go that high. Not sure how that will pan out.
If true then I'm glad that we won't budge if we feel that we shouldn't be spending that much on a certain player. Hope we get Salah though, the cheaper the better ofc
