Every time I think of Kewell I think how he turned United down stating somethig along the lines of ' United are on the decline whereas Liverpool are improving' Obviously not word for word but something like that. I must admit I'd have loved him at United
I saw an old 2003 game of Liverpool and he was just skinning people for fun ( before all the injuries). I think he started out really well for us and then it just disappeared. What could have been, I had so much faith in him and was just let down all the time. United are on the decline.......=)
I'v nothing against Cole, I would of love him to do well. But it does seem he is passed it. That left side - always a problem!
Cole has always been a luxury player, for him to be effect he needs to play in the hole. In the past he could do a job on the wings with his tricks and burst of pace over 5 yds before putting a ball in, he needs to play in Italy or Spain now to shine. KK has developed an aggressive ball chasing ethic, very similar to Barca, hence him signing the likes of Henderson. Cole and Poulson dont have this.
CityCityHull. Exactly. Brilliant observation. Henderson was signed for the amount of ground he covers,His energy levels.
Plus he has an excellent key pass figure (top 10 in the PL) Similarly, Charlie Adam is in the top 8 for goals and assists combined, so that'll be part of KK's thinking.
Gerrard Lucas Miereles Henderson Adam Maxi Shelvey (Loan) Spearing (Loan) Aquilani, Cole, Poulsen and Jovanovic are likely to be sold. Kuyt is most likely to be returned to his natural forward position just behind the front man and Pacheco will probably get a chance somewhere.
Citycityhull, "KK has developed an aggressive ball chasing ethic, very similar to Barca, hence him signing the likes of Henderson. Cole and Poulson dont have this. " You miss the point completely. It is what Shankley called Advanced Defence. Shanks believed that defence began on the opposition goal line if they had the ball. The idea being to win the ball 10yeards either side of the halfway, Every succesful Liverpool side has employed the same tactic as it is the flipside of pass and move. Now ball chasing is what England U21s did last night.
Press high. Thats what Barca do. Everyone praises them with the ball but without it they are just as good
If Kenny gets us playing at least half as well as Barca do on their day then I will be ecstatic. Would definately be enough to get back in the top 4
I think we will be hovering around 4th, got to bear in mind these new players will have to adapt which wont be easy. A bit of youth going forward is someting we have sorely misssed in recent years.
I fancy Spurs to have a good year if they keep their best players and make one or two signings. If you ( United or Liverpool ) signing Bale, Van Der Vaart, Modric and say Dawson you would be chuffed to bits and think you could definetly win the league. However Spurs already have these players , so as I said if they hold on to em and add a few more then they could be a real force next year
To be fair though, we only need to improve our consistency. We can beat the big teams, but we end up losing or drawing to those we should be turning over.
True And thats where that touch of class from top players realy counts, plus squad depth. We are quite a way off, but it the gap is being bridged I think! Realy looking forward to next year
Consistency is the key. And consistency with results will come from being fleixible when things arent going your way. How many times last season did we lack options on the bench? If plan A failed, we lost points. Next season, we can play a number of different formations, different styles of football and can improve consistency. Thats why I think top 4 is a very achievable. I do think it will be extremely close though. At this stage I would say United for title (unfortunately) and a 5 way fight for the remaing 3 CL places
Not necessarily. All they've signed thus far is a centre back and they will sign a keeper and Ashley Young, who I reckon is just a luxury. Now if they were to sign a top class central midfielder, now I reckon they will probably walk it.However I'm not convinced they will,I reckon they will have nothing left in the coffers when they make these three signings.Ferguson won't address the issue. Modric isn't leaving Spurs. Snjeider is staying with Inter. Its going to be harder on United if they don't address their obvious area of weakness. The other sides around them are going to be far far stronger thats for certain, they are also dealing with a different Liverpool to the one they previous dealt with. They however need two central midfielders and not just one.
When it comes to the so called lower teams I think KK learnt the lesson of West Ham and it came to fruition at Fulham. At WH we set out to contain and hit them on breakaways - standard procedure. At Fulham the attitude was totally different. We changed to a "we are going to give you a handfull to cope with" ie you have to worry about us. It's not just a difference of one or two class players. It is a total difference in attitude. That's why I keep banging-on about Liverpool re-finding their heart. Sure I want the squad and the team to improve but without that heart we will still not achieve what we are capable of.
Well said. The players don't necessarily have to be world beaters.Man United won the title with no world beaters. Its all about heart.Scare the living **** out of the opposition, don't be afraid of them, make them afraid of you. I said this before,Liverpool have the muscle, all they need now is the flair.
Fair Judgement, yes I think our signings this season are more on building for the future, as for the start 11 at present time, it remails unchanged apart from De Gea. But I think Fergie knows where the problems lie, just need the right player.
We would need one less midfielder if Hargreaves wasn't made of polystyrene. We need someone like him to give the other, more creative signing more freedom. I think SAF will only sign one midfielder though, as he seems to like Carrick and we have ando and cleverly.
