That's some serious muscle right there mate. You got the V8 or Straight 6 in the Ute? Let me guess, the missus' one has the ecoboost right? ;)
The mk3 was a great looking Motor. They used it in Mad Max as the Interceptor. Best Movie car IMO along with the DeLorean.

I heard a while back the Mondeo is for sale over there now. Has it caught on at all?

(BTW those photos of the Mustang are on the money. Was that the model used in Bullet?)

Swords, the XA, XB and the XC were great Aussie muscle cars with the XB being my favorite ... see black XB https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=i&...x7BBEmM2CYOYwT1Ks4T746gg&ust=1387510828177357

Cheers mate, both vehicles are XR6's 4.0 litres six cylinders. They also come out with a factory fitted turbo and are 300kw ............ the most powerful standard car on the market ( of course, not including Ferrari's etc)
They are quicker than the V8's except at very top end. The police use them.

My XR6's are 190kw standard from factory............... just a very comfortable car to own and when using 98 premium fuel, they average around 10 litres per hundred kilometres, which is alot better than some of the smaller buzz boxes.

The Mondeo, overall has been a slow mover in sales but you never see any advertisements for them either.

Yes, the photos of the Mustang are more or less, copies of the 'Bullet' Mustang. This one is the more genuine of the two. ( wheel size, colour, missing pony badge, etc )

250-odd nags in yours? Sweet. You're getting around 28mpg (imperial) too which is pretty darn good for a 4 liter. What roughly is the price of juice in Oz? And generally speaking, how much is the Motor Tax out there?

I bet you ain't ripped off half as much as here :(

Premium petrol can be $1.52 one day, up to $1.74 the next.
My ute has averaged since new ( as read on the clock ) 10.2 litres per 100 klms ................. and that's with the ute loaded. Pretty dam good I say.
My Hilux 2.7 litre motor used to average about 12.7 litres per hundred.

Motor tax is built into the rego so I'm not sure but rego for the 6 cylinder is about $800 - 900 per year.

So lets go in the middle and say $1.63. That equates to EUR1.06. Its roughly EUR1.50 here. Your 6 pot 4 liter works out at about 550 Euro. To tax a pre-08 one of those here would set you back EUR1,809 or 2,800 Ozzie Dollars!

So next time you're complaining about being ripped off by the Government Aussie, remember, it could always be worse! :D

Your Toyota works out at 22mpg. That's pretty thirsty. Do you run Diesel Pickups/Utes over there at all?

Yeah, every cat and his dog have diesels, mostly in duel-cab 4wd form.
Diesel used to always be about 10 cents a litre cheaper until everyone started buying one so the govt, in their wisdom, jacked up the price so now it costs as much, if not more than premium 98 ............... go figure!

As you probably know, Holden & Ford are being killed off by Asian imports, yet, the product offered by Holden & Ford has never been better, are often cheaper to run than the others ........... yet we Aussies saviour the imports. Now, tens of thousands of people will be out of work, plus all the industries that feed off them.

The Toyota Hilux was bullet proof but was uncomfortable as hell ........... like driving a tank. At my age, after climbing ladders, etc all day, the last thing I need is to have an uncomfortable ride home.
The XR6, with the sports shift auto, car like comfort etc, solves that problem.

Yes, we may as well stop all forms of work, send it overseas, sit on our backsides and reminisce the good old days when everyone held a job and supported our own country.
    Rant over.
    Cheers,
    Aussie

    Pretty much spot on mate
Holden arent even going to be building cars over here on about 2 years time. Plants being shut down and sent abroad.
Ford are only a matter of time i reckon
There are thousands of "Asian imports" on the streets now.
Suprisingly Audi, VW, Merc & BMW all have a huge presence and market share. i mat have said before, I was driving to work a few weeks (months?) ago and I pulled up at some traffic lights in a queue of about 8 or 10 cars. there was only 1 ford & zero Holdens. the rest were Audi, VW, BMW etc.

Its going a bit like Ford did in the Uk and certainly going to put a large number out of jobs.
The only saving grace is if these guys/families move out of the cities and set up somewhere a bit more remote and use thier skills there.
I know of a car repairs garage based inland about 4 hours. It is the only one for 200 miles around and is constantly booked out.
Theres plenty of machinery suppliers that ideal with that are also moving abroad as it just "that much" cheaper.

Anyway on a happier note, I finally got around to booking my rally driving experience. Set to go late jan. Hopefully before i go down to met the QPR boys in Melbourne
Should be a good laugh..Drive 6 laps and 2 hot laps thrown in driving a Scooby <ok>

I watched Rush a couple of nights ago, the story of James Hunt and Nikki Lauder, strongly recommend. Watched some old video of them on youtube afterwards and was blown away how close the portrayal was. Sadly James Hunt died when he was 45 from a heart attack which won’t surprise you when you see the film. Amazing stat from those F1 days, 25 drivers competed for the title of which 2 were killed each year!

I'm guessing you are quite young Loopy. This is when I, and I'm guessing a few other on here, first became followers of F1, and why there is a nagging sense of dissatisfaction with the sport today, though it's good the death count has disappeared. I was given the awesome Senna documentary for Christmas, also highly recommended.

Is it true there's new regulations coming in restricting engine capacity to 1.6L?

Yep, not sure if that is next season or the one after though. Won't make that much difference to speed, because engines are so much more efficient now, its more of a pointless nod to being green and fuel economy.

Though 1.6 in an F1 car just doesn't sound right, does it?

A young 49 so I was only 10 or so when this happened, I remember the crash but thought Hunt got him out didn't realise he was back in the car so quick!! I always thought Hunt as a bit of a nerd especially then he appeared on Superstars! Didn't realise he was a playboy lol.... Will have to get the Senna documentary now - thanks!

When you look at the roll call of great drivers who were killed in the 50s, 60s and 70s it was an accepted part of the sport. I think it was only after Lauda's crash that they really started to bring in elements that contributed to driver safety.

On another speed note, the TT races in the Isle of Man produce some of the most hair-raising racing imaginable. Virtually every year there are riders killed as the street track offers no safe run-offs, often just stone walls, it's part of the excitement and to just ride the track at safer speeds on 'Mad Sunday' when all-comers are let loose gives you a perspective on how crazy you have to be to do that for a living...

Certainly doesn't sound right but it's true. The race engineers (most if whom are British, we can do some things well) can squeeze nearly 800 ponies out of a 1.6 litre engine.

Very true Sheff. Stan says its a nod to the green crowd but is there an attempt to curtail speed and not allow it get out of hand for safety's sake?

They will be turbo-charged 1.6 engines, with energy recovery systems. Last time turbos were used they were 1.5...
