Did anyone else hear both inside and outside the ground an awful lot of European accents? I am not fluent in Belgian so cannot be sure....but it sounded from that region
Definitely. I had a beer before the game in the Covered End bar and watched the Arsenal game. There were a group standing watching alongside, first I thought they were Dover Soles on a diversion from the Primark Sale.... but cottoned on that they were Belgians. Weird
Not surprised. It is one of the world's least known languages. No text-books or evening classes available to help us learn Belgian.
A few thoughts on the takeover now that it appears to be happening: 1. Overall it has to be good news. It was either a done deal or administration within days I guess if the prices quoted are accurate. 2. A funny mixture of thanks and good riddance to the old owners. Lest we forget they saved our bacon but the last year and a half has been a massive let down and a chance missed to progress. 3. CP needs to be carful what he wishes for if he wants clarity on contracts. If I was the new owner and it was my money and I had to make a decision now, I would only offer two or three of the current squad who are out of contract a new deal. Other than Stephens, Wiggins and Wood who we desperately need to keep hold of and build a team around, the rest are too old, not up to it, past their best etc. Somewhat harshly maybe, I include some good and faithful servants ((Jacko, Kermit) in the latter category. Whether they are kept or not depends on the level of investment that the chocolate man wants to make (and if course whether these guys want to hang about after their experiences this year!). Similarly, reading charlton life avidly yesterday it seems that there has been a shift in attitudes towards CPs tactics. Almost universally condemned for yesterday's efforts despite the unavailabity of key players. I would love CP to turn into the best manager ever but I suspect the new owner will be less sentimental. 4. First priority. New pitch. End of. 5. Some statement of intent re the future of the Valley would be welcome if unlikely. I'm not a peninsula fan.
We may need to start taking TC's insider information a bit more seriously. There's a rumour brewing up on CL that this one's fallen through as well. Don't want to live or die by the Charlton rumour mill, but this is driving me apesh*t. I said saturday I did'nt want to be drawn into another takeover saga, but my heart went anyway. C'mon TC, tell us the yanks are coming back.
Put it this way KS - If what I have heard is true, you might as well close this thread and resurrect the old takeover thread please log in to view this image
Ken, my mate tc was not the first to tell you that the poiret lead TO was dead in the water! The yanks are back in, but are offering considerably less than last time. At the time of writing it's not certain the wages are going to be paid in the morning. You are days away from being sold on the cheap or going under(again).
Yeah, I remembered after writing. If the price is going down, I may buy us myself, change the ground to the 'Shabby Stadium' and have the team run out to 'Always look on the bright side of life'. Actually, the moral of this story is probably not to spend too much time on Charlton Life, but I want a takeover, so I'm hungry for news. I'll be back on here in ten minutes to see if anythings changed.
Yeah great for growing spuds, that's why somebody drove a tractor all round it just before the Massive game.
Brilliant! I ran it through the anagram site to check (better than hurting my brain late at night) and it says "All the life's wisdom can be found in anagrams. Anagrams never lie."
