Yep, that's definitely a handball. Initially thought he had both arms together tucked in and then they came out as he turned his body to block the ball, but he definitely raises that arm individually.
Clattenburg was looking to make friends with Everton today, I don't think he'll be boo'ed as much next time he turns up.
Def pen Cork had just been booked and put in a strong challenge seconds later so could have been for his own protection. Only listened to the game on the radio today but JWP has struggled to make a positive impact on recent games and his set pieces have not beat the 1st man, but this is the inconsistency of young players
Sorry, I still don't see it. His arm is already moving into that position before the ball is struck, and certainly before he can be expected to react. Five yards CBK? Really? Looks more like two to me.
Just seen it and not a penalty for me. He was only a few yards away. His arm was already going up. How on earth is he meant to lower his arm in time?
Agree on JWP today - the sort of game that might have Rabbit emerge from his burrow. As has been said though, therein lies the inconsistency of young players. Luke was great going forward today, less so in defence. Lovren again immense though and I just felt a lot more comfortable with Davis in goal.
Going beyond the question of when he actually raises his arm, why on earth is he raising it up there anyway? Either way he's moved his arm into an unnatural position and blocked the ball with his arm.
It's a natural movement, he's turning his body to block the cross, his arm goes up for balance. You can argue his hand's in an odd position, but it's surely not deliberate handball; any goalkeeper would be envious of reactions like that!
That Gaston kid sounds alright, could be worth a go, is he another academy product? I only half-listened to bits on the radio so don't really know what happened. Went for a piss at 1-0, came back at 2-1, so didn't get any of the unnecessary emotional turmoil. But I'm going to wildly speculate that we missed Schneiderlin, we just do everything a little bit better with him.
I could go either way in the handball. He does raise his arm, but it was part of an instinctive reaction. He wasn't trying to play the ball or sticking his arm out to take away an angle. Basically he wussed out and was turning sideways and protecting his face. But OTOH his arm was out and the ball would not actually have hit him on some level he did move his hand to the ball even if it wasn't to gain an advantage.
Very true, JWP is nowhere near as good at DM. Cork was great, but I still think we are missing Victor.
I'd have been far more annoyed being a Liverpool fan right now and not being given that Suarez penalty....
You can say that again.....Mind you Suarez has been flinging himself down nearly every time he gets into the box perhaps there is a lesson there for him to learn. The Ref was right on the spot after all...........
According to the rules of the game that is clearly not a handball. It doesn't matter if his hands are in a weird place or if his hands are away from his body or if he moved his hands toward the ball. He has to deliberately intend to handle/block the ball with his hands in order to gain an advantage. Unfortunately, the refs are wildly inconsistent with how they call the rule so in that sense perhaps it was unjust. But the fact that handballs like that are sometimes given and may well be given against the Saints soon still doesn't make it a penalty. It just means the ref got the call correct in this case but seeing as how it was very, very close and "deliberate" is referee's discretion and most refs are terrible we can't rely on consistent rulings. Unfortunate, but that's the way it is.
