Perhaps if we had played our best team, we may have been in with a chance of a cup and European qualification, but no good worrying about that now, Sunderland got and deserved a win, that will do heaps for their morale, nice to have "knocked out by the eventual Cup winners" on our history, and they would not be the first team to win a cup and get relegated!

I wanted us to progress in the League Cup, but wasn't broken hearted about it...especially with our recent injury problems. May appear that it could be difficult for Sunderland, but winning can be a habit. I'm sure they are pretty pleased about it.

Yes saw that earlier. They've started making underground announcements warning people not to stand at the platform edge when using mobile devices. Been a couple of unfiortunate incidents!

It's easily done as well I nearly walked into a lamppost texting this morning! Doh!

Would it be mean to say I would have pissed myself laughing if I saw someone walk off a pier while not looking where they were going?

Lost count of number of idiots who wander across the road without looking. Some look but appear not to see or react. Some roads here are narrow... have already made a decision that I will brake but I will not swerve if to do so would involve another innocent on the pavement. You have been warned.

Totally agree Fran. I've have had one incidence of each, so far. The texter who walked out in front of my car, the texter who walked out in front of my bike, and the iPod wearer who left me in charge of her life when I had to screech the car to a halt no more than a foot away from her. Texting/iPod wearing in the street is not conducive to a long and happy life.

On the other hand, it may improve the gene pool.

This does all raise a rather obvious question. The law has clamped down firmly on people texting or phoning while driving. In the light of the examples quoted above, should there not be similar restrictions on pedestrians?

Absolutely not. What an extreme overreaction to a not-very-common problem that would be

I've long felt that pedestrians need to be taught to know what to do when crossing the road. Years ago we had public information films for just about every minor danger, be it leaving litter in the countryside or crossing the road. My era was look right, look left, look right again, or there was the zebra crossing with Belisha Beacons [love that name]. Then they upgraded that to the green cross code. Nowadays the education has disappeared, but there is usually a pelican crossing, stopping the traffic, up the street, and many pedestrians don't seem to have the faintest idea what to do if there isn't one available.

When talking about his case, Ian Watkins described it as "megalolz". I despair.

He was then asked during sentencing if he still though it was "megalolz", he said: "No, it's just lols now."
