Doubt it's a done deal, not even sure we're seriously interested in him or not - just that he's been to one of our games as a friend of Mamadou.

RE Salah. Really good, tricky and pacey wide forward. Been impressed with him when I've watched Basel in the CL, but for 15mill? Psh off. Way overpriced.

Never seen M'Vila play but sounds like the kind of strong DM we need that is also able to play the ball. If he's available and would be challenging for a first team place straight away then sounds good.

Linked with Jorginho in the summer...

Fiorentina are heading the queue to sign Liverpool and Chelsea target Jorginho - but Hellas Verona will refuse to sanction a January move away for the playmaker.

The Brazilian has enjoyed an electrifying start to his maiden Serie A campaign, scoring seven times in 15 outings, and his progress has alerted a number of clubs in Italy and across Europe.

Liverpool, who are looking to bolster their midfield ranks in January, came close to signing the 21-year-old last summer, while Chelsea and Arsenal are growing increasingly interested in securing his services.

But it is Fiorentina who are the most keen on Jorginho - and they were hopeful of securing a deal in the New Year.

However, Verona are desperate to retain the schemer and will try to resist any offers until the summer at the earliest.

Seems Pastore may be a loan ( only good thing could be it is a WC year and he would want to impress)

Liverpool's previously ailing hopes of landing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore on loan have received a boost as he now looks certain to make a temporary switch in January.

The Argentinian was one of the club's first big-money signings after they were taken over by the Qatar Investment Authority in 2011 and he has previously stated that he was opposed to any move away from Paris.

However, sources in Italy claim the 24-year-old is reconsidering his options as he wants regular first-team football ahead of the World Cup in Brazil in the summer.

Liverpool are the leading English club in the chase for the former Palermo man's services as he is ineligible to play in the Champions League for anyone else this season, which rules out the Manchester clubs, Arsenal and Chelsea.

The Anfield club will have to fight off interest from Serie A side Roma, who are also monitoring the situation, while Lyon are keen to keep him in Ligue 1.

Haven't heard of him...

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is said to be keen on Hamburg midfielder Haken Calhanoglu but Arsenal are the favourites to sign him.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is leading the chase to sign the 19-year-old but Rodgers is also thought to be keeping a close eye on the situation.

Hamburg do not want to sell but they would apparently struggle to keep hold of the Turkish star if an offer were to be put forward in the new year.

In January you can sign a pre-contract with teams to get players on a free in the summer ( if their contract works out that way), here are four from the website:

Xabi Alonso would be the name on the top of many Reds fans wish list: the Basque helped Rafa Benitez's side to European Cup glory in 2005 and would add a new dimension to the midfield.

PSV's Swedish attacking midfielder Ola Toivonen has been linked with a move to Anfield for some time and, at 27 years old and with 35 international caps under his belt, is arguably just about to hit his peak.

A return to Anfield for Thomas Ince has been on the cards during previous transfer windows but the sell-on clause written into the young midfielder's contract has always prevented a deal between Blackpool and Liverpool being completed. But if he's on a free...

Highly-rated French frontman Jeremy Ménez became the youngest professional football player in the history of Ligue 1 when he made his debut for Sochaux in 2004 and at 27, and only on the fringes of the Paris St Germain's star-studded team, he could be ripe for a move to Merseyside.

Keisuke Honda joins Milan on a free in January....... annoyed at that and a player who could help our team massively!! <grr>

Aren't Milan in the CL though? Would probably be able to offer more in wages too.

CL yes..... but really don't think they will be in it next year! A bit too far behind and Juve, Napoli, Inter, Roma don't look like slowing down either ( only three get in). Wages..... Milan are damn near broke, they barely have any money! A lot of infighting with the Berlusconi family over it too and trying to find someone to help them out.

EDIT: Very well could go out of CL tonight too!

With Gerrard out over Xmas as well as Henderson I believe (?) it's time for others to step up.
But what options do we have?

Allen...surely now is his time. Played well against west ham but how will he cope with spurs powerful midfield.?
Lucas...nowhere near the form he was in prior to his injuries and he needs to get back there quickly or he will need replacing.
Alberto..talented undoubtedly but is he ready. Would like to see him given a chance.

And that about it. I would still like to see Agger given a chance at DM but maybe not in these games.
What about Johnson moving forward with Toure or Kelly at RB? Or could toure play midfield?

It just shows how thin we are in this area and this article in the Liverpool echo is interesting and would help:

The January transfer window is nearly upon us and, with Liverpool FC supporters all over the world wondering who Brendan Rodgers will bring in to supplement his squad, we've poured through the lists of players who are out of contract in 2014 to see if there are any fantastic freebies around.

Contract laws mean that any player whose contract expires during the summer can sign a pre-contract agreement from January 1. There is of course always the option as well of paying a fee to get the player straight away.

With us still being linked heavily with Pastore it's obviously an area we are looking to strengthen and is crucial to our maintaining our top 4 push. Otherwise we will end up with a midfield like utds.
