I doubt it as sport shops like Mullery owned are few and far between these days. I think Steve Perryman's travel business still exists and Lou Macari still has his chip shop outside Old Trafford !!
I remember Len Duquemin running the newsagents in Paxton Road after he retired. Dave Mackay had a tie shop further down the High road on the other side. Cliff Jones went into butchery but got ripped off and big Maurice Norman ran a wool shop!
I remember it well. Nice shop, well stocked with ties of every description. Wouldn't work now though, would it? Half the male population don't know what a tie is!
The Dave Mackay tie shop is alive and kicking in Enfield. "Half the male population don't know what a tie is!" That must be a group who never attend funerals or interviews then.
I am amazed Yv and very pleased to hear Dave Mackays shop is still thriving. It started life in Tottenham, I had no idea it moved to Enfield. Sorry if I sounded sarcastic re ties but in my youth and when DM opened his shop all the lads wore ties All the time. Look at old clips of footie crowds for example. Is the guy in your picture the bridegroom 'cos I notice he's not wearing one! (I've a feeling I'm going to feel silly now as he's probably famous & I should know who he is--but I don't although he could be vaguely familiar). Go on - embarrass me....
Sorry RDBD if you thought I was sarcastic re ties but in my youth ALL the lads wore ties ALL the time. Fashions change & they certainly don't now. Love the pic YV - I rest my case!
Lou's chippy is still there, although I doubt he owns it now. Utd gave Busby the club shop when it was just a portakabin outside the ground. It's a different kettle of fish now though; the club shop is worth millions, although I'm not sure the current players' shirts are selling too well at present. The "I scored at Old Trafford" knickers are now on sale in Liverpool and Newcastle!
Sorry about the first post. I got in a muddle & thought YV was having a go & then realized it was RDBD and thought I had deleted first post. I shall never get the hang of this lark, that's why I don't post much!
Well my folks were Mods, so my old man was forever wed to a sharp suit. In fact he never came to terms with the fact I never had to wear a suit for work (even for interviews) .
Mods are still around,re,Bradley Wiggins, and Paul Weller still dresses in his mod gear, and i still have some Mod style clothes i wear
No-ones had a go Maggie, no-one would dare! YV only added a visual to RD's comment about lads today not even bothering with ties at interviews and funerals, those two events are bad enough, but your own wedding! As dapper as YV looks in his shellsuit there, its not right really is it! http://www.davemackayclubties.co.uk/ please log in to view this image ...not much room in Mr. Wortons shop!...can't see Geoff Capes getting in there too easily.
"not much room in Mr. Wortons shop!...can't see Geoff Capes getting in there too easily." You have to go into the DM shop via the clothes shop next door. Judging by the date on the Google Maps photo and the crowd outside I'll wager that was the week before the new school term started (last-minute buy of kids school uniform by their folks) .
No problem, Maggie. You can't actually delete posts on here anyway, the closest thing to it is editing your post(button along the bottom right) and replace it with a full stop. If you are going to wear a tracksuit to a wedding though, I think a Beckenbauer is the right way to go, slim fit with no big logos. It's pretty smart!
Can anyone see anywhere where Maggie has been the slightest bit rude/sarcastic to anyone, because I can't and I was intrigued to see this rare event. Or did she savage YV/RDBD and a mod removed it. Can't say they don't deserve it at times! I don't know what she would make of the way we speak to each sometimes!
Still not sure whether that photo is where the groom really is a real eastern European player or not.
