Premier League Preview: Liverpool v West Ham

Luis Suarez will be looking to add West Ham to his list of Premier League goalscoring victims when they travel to Liverpool on Saturday.

The Uruguayan has not scored against the London club in two appearances, making Sam Allardyce's men one of only four current top-flight clubs to have shut out the red-hot striker.

Southampton, Cardiff City and Hull City make up a perhaps-surprising trio, although Suarez has only faced the newly promoted Yorkshire and Welsh clubs once each - in last Sunday's 3-1 humbling at the KC Stadium and the 2012 League Cup final.

Club and player responded to their disappointment at Hull in stunning fashion on Wednesday, with Suarez - who carried a minor calf injury into the game - scoring four goals of the highest quality as Norwich City were thrashed 5-1 at Anfield.

He opened the scoring with a dipping half-volley from 40 yards, before tucking home Philippe Coutinho's corner and lashing another superb strike from distance home to complete his hat-trick in the first half.

A swerving long-range free-kick completed the 26-year-old's haul after the break, and he rounded off a mesmerising evening by laying on Raheem Sterling's fifth.

Suarez's continued form is crucial for Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who will be without Daniel Sturridge until the new year due to an ankle injury, but the Premier League's top scorer - with 13 goals to his name - is expecting the whole team to contribute in the England man's absence.

"The responsibility is with the squad," Suarez explained.

"I know I am the striker and I'll try for the team.

"But I think that we have so many players who can help the team going forward. We'll miss Daniel, but we'll try to do well without him."

Jose Enrique (knee) remains unavailable for Liverpool, who will not have to face record-signing Andy Carroll, despite his return to West Ham training after a foot injury.

The striker has not played all season, and Allardyce has stressed he does not expect the 26-year-old to make an appearance before the turn of the year.

West Ham will also be without the suspended Ravel Morrison and the injured Winston Reid (ankle), while Mladen Petric (calf) is a doubt.

The Londoners have not won at Anfield in 50 years, and failed to score on each of their last five trips - although two of those games have ended 0-0.

Joe Cole and Stewart Downing will be looking to show the reds up as they have been cast aside, so we will need to be wary of them wanting to put in a good shift. I don't feel West Ham have very much up front and just need to be wary of set-pieces and handling the very direct and physical style that West Ham will no doubt play.

Let's win the first half and win or draw the second half.

We need the win looking at the games we have after West Ham to the end of January. A tough little run. If we get an early goal the floodgates could open, however the longer it stays 0-0 we could get mugged.

In their last game Joe Cole was taken off in the first half he was that bad so can't see him setting Anfield alight, and Downing has the same problem he had with us he gets past a man but there is no big man up front to cross to.

I know we will probably regret these words but they really don't have any sort of formiable attack. **** me they put Collins up top for the end of that Palace game!! But Set-pieces and just the physical nature I worry about a little bit. Sakho should help that and hopefully Coutinho will work the midfield over as well. <ok>

Team News
Liverpool

Kolo Toure returned from injury to take a place on the bench against Norwich in midweek and is in contention to start here.
Brendan Rodgers will be tempted to name an unchanged XI after his side ran out 5-1 winners over Norwich in midweek.
Lucas Leiva could come back in, but Joe Allen would be unlucky to lose his place.

West Ham
Guy Demel could return at right-back after being rested in midweek for the loss at Crystal Palace.
Razvan Rat has returned to fitness and will start here again.
Carlton Cole may drop out again, and Sam Allardyce could go with the 'no striker' formation that worked so well at Tottenham earlier in the season, particularly given how poor Cole was at Palace.

Worried we will struggle with this one. Two poor performances on the trot, the 2nd of which was saved by Suarez. We really need some midfielders and wingers.

Trying to figure out how to get my post as the OP without deleting posts and sending dribbles into a mad rage. <yikes>

Edit: someone did it, cheers for that. <ok>
