I love Scouser accents. Geordies, the Ridings of Yorkshire, Cumbria/Westmorland, Cornwall, even Manc.

But not London/SE/Home Counties/Posh 'Received English' nor Brum/Black Country.

I agree with this apart from the bit about Brum. I like all regional accents and think they should be celebrated. I despise the attempts to censor them and turn us all into boring southern ****s.

I can't agree with this view at all. Why is scouse not a legitimate accent? We have to listen to southern prats on telly most of the time and I find them far more irritating. Nobody really says 'rum' instead of 'room' in real life do they? If people said they didn't like hearing Indian accents and they shouldn't be allowed on telly everyone would moan and say it's racist, but it's allowed for scousers?

You do realise Scouse isn't a race?

It would be daft full stop. What has it being shown on the telly got to do with it? Instead of planning stupid pitch invasions why don't these "fans" put their energy into getting behind the team and out singing the scousers throughout Sunday's match?

Spot on. They'll lose what little remaining support they still have from the vast majority of supporters who are completely fed up with their daft 19.04 antics and banner waving but could also cost the club a big fine and throw away the respect we've earned around the League for our hard nosed performances against the big boys on the field. Silly little men go spit your dummies out in the pub after the game ....while you blather on about "our heritage" after you've had a few to fortify your manhood. Pathetic!!

Of course a number who aren't that bothered by the name change could have being booing the stewards for there stupid actions...and some even trying to block the way off to stop the stewards ..

though the name change might not be such a big deal to them

;)

The operative word was 'love', PLT. I can cope with Brum/Black Country/Bristol/Nottingham, but I don't like the southern/London/posh ones.

I agree with you about the 'smoothing out' of regional accents. TV has a lot to do with influencing accents.

How do you define race? How is it different to the Indian example? People can say scousers shouldn't be on telly but if I said that about any group of people from outside England I would be called racist. How is that fair?

TWF - my issue with perceived racism is that it gets everywhere an affects everything and there's massive double standards. You can say what you like about certain people but with others it's a hate crime. This scouse example is a perfect one.

Agreed and good point regarding the influence TV has.

The only accent I truly dislike is RP.

So some idiot starts a thread entitled " Pitch Invasion? " and stands back and watches people make fools of themselves

Probably best not to get too excited about " my mate told me ....." type threads

Where you at Reckitts in mid 1960? My husband came there for an interview for a Perfumery Chemist position after post-grad in London. He also went to interviews at Smith and Nephew and JH Fenner. All jobs offered were around 600 quid/annum. He ended up finding a job paying 800 quid in Lancaster.

Mrs BMB I joined Reckitts in mid-61 after post-grad in Germany. 600 quid seems to have been the standard starting wage at the time. I stayed just over a year before emigrating.

OK...i'll concede it may have been more substantial than I could see from watching on TV, although the commentators were pretty scathing in their comments. But PITCH INVASION??? Come on...surely no one in their right mind would say this is an appropriate way to express dissent. I remember the last intra-game pitch invasion nearly cost us a place in the Prem when a bunch of idiots interrupted Prossies penalty taking against Cardiff. Thank god McCormack saved our bacon. I'm all for a good pitch invasion to express joy and thanks....I was out there with the crowd after we beat Watford to get to Wembley. But this one...if it happens... would be stupid, disruptive to the team, and totally counter-productive.

So someone starts this thread with a little rumour he has heard (or made up) and all of a sudden the CTWD lot are organising a pitch invasion, everyone is plotting etc etc. IF anyone runs onto the pitch I am 100% certain they will be booed by the rest of the supporters and I don't imagine any of the "No to Hull Tigers" campaign would be happy about it either, though no doubt the message board will be full of people condemning people like me that don't want a name change, we will all be tarred with the same brush.

To clarify... I haven't made this up. A steward who is working the game is a friend of mine and has been told by their "higher ups" that there may be a pitch invasion in the 19th minute.

Yes it's a rumour. It may be a worst case scenario, preparing for the worst kind of thing. They may have got it wrong. I've merely stated what was said between the staff at the game.

But I haven't made this up. Don't question my integrity. You'll find I'm often correct and true with news I have stated in the past such as televised games before they are announced as one key example.

Juleskaren wasn't questioning your post, see my earlier reply about what may have caused the stewards' concern.

If a sizeable group of people run on the pitch, I'm going on.

Only to get a touch of Stevie G, I missed out last time. Hopefully get get a good close look at Suarez's teeth as well. Then I'll go back to my seat.

You should try looking up that fat bird who tried to get near Dirk Kuyt in the first Prem Season. She got very close to him while he sat on the bench.
