I was being facetious, but the point is valid.
I'm not saying a ref can draw an inviolable conclusion from it, but as a factor in helping him make up his mind, it's pretty strong evidence.

  3. If a player gets a broken leg, the ref always sends the opposing player off whether it is warranted or not so I guess so <ok>

I think everyone agrees it should have been a red card, A delay in decision from the ref can result in red or yellow so I don't see why the long delay made some believe it would only be yellow. I think Dowd didn't want to send anyone off too soon in case the game got away from him so maybe compromised with the yellow. I'd like to see retrospective reds for bad incidents [not sure if I class this as bad when you think of some tackles] - I don't actually know the proper rules on retrospectives.

While googling 'physio Dowd red card' - the first hit was an Everton website were they all said exactly the same as Tobes, almost word for word, even calling the physio a 'scruffy t...' - I always thought there was a bluenose collective, a bit like the borg, but I'm glad Tobes didn't go as far as one of the posters on that site: 'Agree with Brenton Rodgers, not happy with this career threatening tackle, it should have been career ending.' - classy!!

Why wait for everything to calm down before issuing a red card and kicking it off again?

They often do that, it's only bell ends like Friend & Atkinson who can't get the card out of their pocket quick enough.

The better refs always give themselves a bit of thinking time when needed & despite this incident Dowd is definitely one of the better ones.

  9. I said above, I agree they should take a few seconds to think before taking action. However, two minutes is far too long IMO. Of course, there are instances were 'quicker the better' is more appropriate and the Rooney and Miralles ones were probably it; ie clear cut red cards that are undebatable (or so you would think <laugh>)

It happens now and again when the ref needs the extra time to check on his head set for other opinion from officials who may have seen the incident more clearly, especially in a derby when tension is high anyway. That's also why on occasions the ref will make an equalising call second half if he realises, or is made aware that he should have shown red. He will look for the opportunity to give 2nd yellow.

The long delay was unbearable tbh, as I was convinced he was gone.

They have to be 100% & if there's any doubt they have to give the player the benefit. When he was talking to fellow officials on the radio, if they'd have been adamant it was a red, you'd have thought he'd have gone with their opinion. So maybe they all didn't get a clear enough view to be definitive.

Irrespective, he stayed on & we got one of the many back there. <ok>

The referee was scared, he was not brave also. I think scared of having to apologise after the game.<doh>

What sort of people write these comments? .... From Everton forum

'Hope he gets septicaemia from the stud marks and never plays again.....now that would be karma'

'Wish he'd destroyed him, it's still the biggest regret of the weekend, bigger than the League and the Cricket results, the fact that he walked away from it.'

Look on rawk or virtually any one club forum for that matter & you'll see the same level of bile posted about whichever player is the latest fans target.

No need to try & make it into an Evertonian issue.

    <laugh> Top thread Guys!

I just wonder what colour would have been shown if Suarez had kicked out in that way! The same applies to the Rooney incident! It does seem that in a Sport that is supposed to be fair and equal some get more equality than others!

  17. I suspect even Tobes will condemn those comments!

    Edit: or twist it <doh>
