Now, I'm not joining in on the AVB bashing despite the title, and as bad as todays result was, and theres no hiding that, I don't want to get rid of him. However, there are some who want him gone, and others whos doubts will be highlighted today. I want to ask those of you who feel that way, if AVB was to go in the next 2 months say, who would you have in his place? Bearing in mind our status in world football as probably a B ranked club, and our draw as such.
If we can persuade him; Gus Hiddink. Otherwise I'd settle for Steve Clarke the way things are right now!
I would in a heartbeat but do you realistically think he'll leave Napoli for Spurs so soon after joining them? Let's be realistic… we have to go for managers who are either free agents or within reach and I think Benitez isn't going to jump ship to come to Spurs anytime in the very near future. Would get my thumbs up though! I think I'd go for your sound suggestion of Steve Clarke actually… I think his recent credentials and experience he had alongside some of the worlds best would be worth a shot. He can't do much worse than AVB!
The problem Spurs have is in attracting a TOP manager is investment in the team. With our record of always selling our best players and net spend , we will have to wave goodbye to anybody who can win things . The Bale money has been wasted , so is there anything left ? Our selling to buy policy hit a bus as many of the team are not worth that much. We have to look at a manager on the way up or a top manager on the way down. Steve Clarke at leasts plays OK football , decade on decade of transition is the future in the presence climate.
Yes, thank you for your deep, intelligent , penetrating insight. The usual level of intelligent comment we have come to expect from you lot...
Unless Avb royally screws up he won't be sacked as him Levy and Baldini have just started a project. He can't sack Avb just because we're a few points off second and playing boring football. As much as we fans have an issue, I'm not realistically expecting Avb to be sacked unless over the Christmas period we go on a truly dreadful run. My fear is Baldini calling his old mate Capello!
Capello is a proven winner. I'd take him over AVB. If you look at stats then we are a very good team. If you look at the real picture, we are rubbish - Can't score, all shots outside the area, too much sideways passing, loss of heads after going 4-0 down, rubbish formation, manager not learning at all...we just look really average, and we don't even have a gun ho attitude to fall back on. What is the point of all this possesion if we can't score, and ship 10 goals to City, WHAM and Newcastle without reply. AVB has split fans from day one, and he is still doing it now - ****e football, ****e results, boring personality and no ability to change things during play. Dream list - Hiddink Rafa Laudrup Cappello More realistic list (next year) Pochetino Martinez Who we will likely end up with Poyet Curbishly Holloway
Laudrup. Benitez might steady us and get us points but it'd be **** football with the same weird starting line ups and subs that people have been complaining about under AVB. I like AVB but I still was always saying that I'd only be prepared to wait until the second half of the season to see some quality football, let alone hiring fatty on a 3 year contract to make us defensive and dull. I think Laudrup's entirely gettable though and would suit us down to the ground so if AVB doesn't get a result against United or at very least start to show some promise then I'll be happy to pay for his cab fare to the airport if he goes.
Maybe AVB went to attack City and thought they were there for the taking after losing their last match. It's rarely easy to blend a new midfield together, so it's a good idea to give AVB time, he's a good coach who'll get it right eventually. You've got a good chance to put this result to bed against us next week as we are not playing well at all, if you get a result against us I'm sure that will give you some much needed confidence after yesterday. I don't fancy our chances to be honest.
Capello is not a proven winner in English football, his success came mostly in Italian football. Which I know you know, but as a person he has zero personality, isn't engaging and would bring a headmaster type approach, which would stifle the team more then currently, so if you want to look at Capello as a serious option just because he was a great coach then you can do, but he certainly isn't what this squad needs. Just like George graham was a proven winner but wasn't what this club needed. We need a charismatic manager, someone with a spark that can create a great team spirit and let players express their ability. the dour strict approach like Graham, or Ramos may lead to a carling cup but the longer they stay, they slowly zap the life out of the club.
The two most important questions are: * How much Bale money do we have left over? * What's the price on Klopp's release clause?
That may well be the case, but then we still only had one striker on the field, who spent a large amount of time in completely un-threatening positions who was backed up by Holtby. I'm not saying he is my first choice, but for me he would be a step up from AVB despite his flaws. Yeh he is just as dull, but I highly doubt we would get stuffed like we did with him in charge. He also won in spain, and has alot of CL experience and is easily better or at least more qualified then any manager we have had recently and others we could be looking at. I think Rafa was good at liverpool, and despite what people said about him, he vastly improved the value of his squad vs his overall spend, achieved 2 CL finals and a prem runner up spot (admitedly should have won) and assembled the best CM i've ever seen in Gerrard, Masc and Alonso with Gerrard feeding Torres. If they had had a decent winger, even one as good as Lennon then I think they would have won the league. Fact is, Martinez, Rodgers, Laudrup, Rafa, and Wenger all play possesion football, they play exciting football and score goals. We play possesion football, sideways passes and and score f all because we are set up to negate an opposition. Even at home. They in turn are able to negate us because our tactics never change, and counter our high line with effective quick balls, and know we won't score. This cannot continue, despite all peoples best intentions to look at the situation favouribly. It doesn't matter how good the defense is if you cannot score, but when you conceid 10 goals in 3 defeats something isn't right.
SG, I guess right now anyone looks better then Avb to alot of fans, but I'm surprised you would be happy with Capello or Rafa, Capello for what mentioned and Rafa because he's a fat Spanish waiter!! Anyways Rafa has just started at Napoli and even if we wanted him, imagine the cost involved. I would go with one of your choices, Hiddink on a short term deal and then possibly Laudrup in the summer but Laudrup would be a risk as he has never managed a team of expensive players aiming for the champions league. It's messy and complicated looking for a new manager, and if Avb goes then I would trust someone like Hiddink to see us through until the right man is found.
Don't think AVB will be sacked, but if he were, then only two managers could get these players to play for them imo,Klopp or Blanc. Please not Capello,he's not right for Spurs
