I'm just looking at realistic targets. Every time there's either the fans wanting the manager to go or he has gone, names like Klopp, Benitez, Hiddink… hell even Mourinho get banded about like we even have the slightest chance of attracting these sorts of managers…? Get real. So my Clarke angle is somewhat more of a realistic one. Jol didn't have much of a long record and he turned out pretty decent in my view!
Don't get me wrong I like Clarke but I would look for someone with a proven track record before taking that chance.
to be fair to flaspur, although he hasn't been a manager long,he's had a lot of experience and success as a coach
Chris Brunt has asked West Brom to sort out Steve Clarke's contact, handily alerting anyone that's looking for a manager know that it runs out in the summer! He's doing a good job there. Big game for them tonight. If Villas-Boas were to go then it wouldn't surprise me to see Redknapp return. Levy might look a bit stupid in the short term, but I don't think he really cares.
Thing is, he's burnt his bridges with England now and that was half the problem. If we'd have known then that he was going to be that stupid it may have been worth keeping him. Oh well. TFB he'd want to ship out half the new guys we got in, and replace them with the likes of Samba and Tony Hibbert.
I think he'd just throw in all the experienced Premier League players and drop all the new ones. That might actually work, though.
Apparently Assou-Ekotto's looking forward to it: please log in to view this image Where the **** is Rose?
Redknapp? If you're worried about tedious football and a lack of goals, there have been 21 in Spurs' 12 PL games (av. 1.75 per game, boosted by City, of course). 'Arry's QPR have had 26 (18 for, 8 against) in their 16 games (av. 1.625 per game).
A quick look through the names being bandied about: Hiddink - He's a free agent, so if he was brought in to steady the ship as we shopped for a replacement he'd be a very good choice - although we would need to get a bloody good manager next summer, rather than start from scratch again De Boer - Doing a good job at Ajax, and is familiar with Verts and Eriksen...although success in Holland with Ajax isn't that difficult Capello - His wage demands would be excessive, plus he isn't that popular, even in Italy he gets grudging respect rather than being lauded. Also, he has history with Factitious Madrid, which counts against him after the last couple of summers Benitez - Only just took over at Napoli, so activating his release clause would cost a bomb Laudrup - Flavour of the month, and his summer transfers have indicated he isn't a good operator in the transfer market (notably with Bony and Shelvey) Pochettino - On the one hand he seems to be flavour of the month, but he has Southampton playing like we want to play, and is a canny operator (i.e. Ramirez, Lovren) Clarke - Yet another flavour of the month. He's got West Brom playing above themselves, but there's a step up between (and I mean this with the utmost respect for Clarke, and with none intended to West Brom) managing West Brom and managing Spurs, which could count against him 'Arry - Ignoring the usual "you should never go back" comments from pundits far and wide, he'd be a short-term solution (which he was supposed to be in the first place), and has proven that he cannot work with a large squad - and that's before Spursguru and PNP hitting the nail on the head in terms of his squad management
Spurs sold him for £74mil so maybe not that much or nothing at all. Klopp well if you got him at least your teams work effort will be better.
£74m? That's probably the only figure that I didn't see connected with that transfer. Klopp? No chance. He'll probably get sick of being permanently stitched up by Bayern and move on sooner or later, but it won't be to us.
I like this train of thought. Following it along, if you score another touchdown on us, we'll really be doing well...
