"No agenda from me on this one". Come, come sparkey,"agenda" is your middle name!!! You should never have got rid of John Parkin. Now he really took the biscuit,or was it the cake?
I see you're getting the swing of it now VETCH. Funnilly enough "A" is the first letter of my middle name, but Agenda would have been a bit too far even for the sense of humour of my dad who was a staunch Cardiff supporter in the days of Ron Stitfall and Danny Malloy. He'd have lapped up this Premier stuff right now if he'd been here to see it. I have very little of an "agenda" on here if the real truth be known - I just like to chat about football (and other things), with just the odd tongue in cheek sentence thrown in here and there. I thought this was going to be a better place to chat after recent events, and I still do. Maybe there are still a few here who are over sensitive and look for hidden meanings when there really aren't any at all. Not saying there won't be some thrown in now and again though. As for Parky, I always liked Desperate Dan and he reminded me of him. Great first goal for us against Norwich with a drive that would have endangered life if their keeper had got in the way. It was all the net could do to stop it, and I think the keeper was relieved that he was only picking the ball out of the net rather than one of his arms as well.......
I remember Parkin's goal.It was stunning volley from way outside the box,if memory serves. Craig Beattie did something similar for The Swans'. Pity they couldn't do it often enough.
Many of our own "supporters" were quick to do it too. The same kind of meatheads who couldn't wait to start whining about Scotland, Graham, Moore or whoever. It's been obvious from day one that Bony is a very good player indeed. One who, if used properly (key factor) will get 20+ goals a season easily.
cardiff could have won this if they took a gamble on brought on cornelius much earlier. they were good value and deserved the draw...
He made a mockery of the fact he's been fit and that was his PL debut. He should start against Arsenal instead of odem.
Hmmmm feel he's more of an impact sub Steve. On the topic of value, regardless of whether Cornelius is worth the money paid surely Mackay has made it back on the signings of Mutch and KTC, both bought for seriously less than what they must actually be worth. The same can be said about Muchu for the Swans Do you think you should of taken the rumored 25 - 30 mil during the summer (if it actually was offered?)
No. He remains a very important player for us imo. When the Boney M combo clicks it will be devastating.
No, however if Pozuelo keeps developing as he is and a similar offer came next year then that would be an interesting situation.
Updated the stats on the first post. Hooper and Osvaldo starting to come good. Someone said Danny Graham should be included. I didn't because he is only on loan....but as we are playing Hull tonight I've put his stats below....we sold him to Sunderland for £5 million. Danny Graham - Hull City (Loan) League appearances = 8 (4). League cup appearances = 1 League goals = 0. League cup goals = 0
He's firing on all cylinders then , pity liked him for us and sorry to see this as possibly his start of a slide down the leagues .
He did do a good job for us didn't he and for a relatively small amount of money, and we made a profit on him. So, if you're reading this, thank-you Mr. Graham. Saying that, it appears that Laudrup knows when to check out...good poker player I reckon.
I cringe when i hear fans say we should go out there and buy big as if the more you pay for a player the better you will be...It never works that way. You should always buy players that will suit the way the manager wants the team to play and you will have more chance of team work than a individual big name player doing it on his own. There is no need to spend millions on a player just buy the right player and this is where all scouts should be earning their money. A player from the lower leagues who is showing he has the right potential is better than a player who costs millions and finds it difficult to play a certain style. Forget what a player costs just look at what he can do and judge if he will fit in and go for him and you wont have to pay over the odds for any individual with a reputation. teamwork beats individual play every time..
So Suarez should be our next target, would suit our style of play, and is a big buy Best of both worlds.
Updated stats above. Well, we've reached the half-way point...time for the half-term report. Of the Prem's big money strikers signed last summer (excluding the elite clubs of course), Hooper and Bony are vying to be top of the class. Hooper has scored 1 extra Prem goal from 3 extra starts but Bony has had 4 extra substitute appearances....meaning he has taken part in 1 extra Prem game. Bony has also contributed the 5 Europa goals that undoubtedly took us into the tie with Napoli and earnt enough money to cover our costs in that competition. However, IMO, Hooper edges it at the half-way stage as he cost half of what Bony cost us.....obviously that doesn't mean I'd have necessarily signed him instead. Bony brings other qualities in the air, his strength and playing with his back to goal....all qualities Swansea City require in our front man using the system we do. I would suggest that so far Hooper is the best value to his team at this stage though. Dwight Gayle is seemingly starting to improve, would be good to hear from Palace fans on this though. Anelka got a couple and we can't rule out him hitting some form now. Osvaldo is starting to settle. Long term I would bet that Bony, Hooper and Osvaldo will end up looking like the best value....just my opinion, based on age, performance and pedigree. Of those 3 I would want only Bony or Osvaldo for us, because of the type of strikers they are...and I don't believe Osvaldo would have joined us for the money we are paying (not to mention a larger transfer fee). So from a Swans perspective I would argue that the £12 million spent on Bony does represent good value so far. Who knows what the future holds however, these things are always a calculated gamble. Worst value, so far (who knows in the future), seems to be £15m on Andy Carroll and a reportedly revised £10.5-11.5m on Andreas Cornelius. At this stage £8.5m on Van Wolfswinkel doesn't look too clever either. Thoughts?
Carroll and Cornelius have been injured all season so far. Can't really judge them yet. Sure that atleast Carroll will be outstanding when he is fit. And as a dane I must say, Cornelius will be the same (he is an extremly good young player).
Cardiff City Andreas Cornelius - £8m Appearances = 0 starts (7 sub appearances) League cup = 1 Goals = 0. = 0 Peter Odemwingie - £2.25m Appearances = 10 (4). League cup = 1 Goals = 1. = 1 Crystal Palace Dwight Gayle - £6m Appearances = 7 (10) Goals = 3 Everton Arouna Kone - £6m Appearances = 0 (5). League cup =1 Goals = 0 Norwich City Ricky Van Wolfswinkel - £8.5m Appearances = 7 (4) Goals = 1 Gary Hooper - £5m Appearances = 12 (3). League cup = 1 (1) Goals = 5. = 2 Southampton Osvaldo - £15m Appearances = 9 (4) Goals = 3 Sunderland Jozy Altidore - £6.5m Appearances = 12 (6). League cup = 4 Goals = 1. = 1 West Brom Victor Anichebe - £6m Appearances = 5 (5) Goals = 1 Niklas Anelka - Free (huge wages though...£5m+ a year?) Appearances = 8 (1) Goals = 2 West Ham Andy Carroll - £15m Appearances = 0 (this season and 22 (2) overall) Goals =0 (and 7 overall) Swansea City Wilf Bony - £12m Appearances = League; 9 (7) League Cup; 1 Europa; 9 Goals = League; 6 League Cup; 1. Europa 5 Wilfried Bony kicks off the New Year on the good foot.....how many million is that a goal now Dai? (I'm going to be asking you the same question 3 years from now
