Quick sum-up of his key points below... It's clear that with the recent results, I am angry today with how things happened However, I am happy with the effort and competition against the league leaders We have to keep on working hard and playing the style we want to We offer Artur our complete support We give Artur all our kindness, these things happen, we are all human We are a team, we work as a team, we win and lose as a team I think overall, we competed well - even after conceding I think all the players put in a good effort today During the full ninety minutes, we kept believing we could get something positive It wasn't to be, we need to move on and forget this result Dejan Lovren is at home Last night he spent the entire night vomiting He should be fully fit for Monday We need to analyse Luke Shaw's situation, but we hope he can train on Monday too I think the game was well-balanced I don't think they had that many clear chances When they had the penalty call, it was all over really I thought we could get a draw from it The positive today is that we continued to compete well despite the setback DTLW
Also, some comments from Jos Hooiveld... I would not say I had a great game I can always do better, I was alright though I felt nice with Jose next to me again We had a little talk before, I said about how many games we had played together We know how to do it now, it was a big step forward for us At Southampton, we win and we lose as a team People put their hands up when they make a mistake Then the rest of us look at what we could have done We do not have a blame culture at Southampton Next week the fans will be happy if Artur saves a great one That's football for you When you lose a game, people will be angry When you win a game, people will be happy There is a bit of a sour taste after the game We started well, then they took the upper hand for fifteen minutes I couldn't believe the one that hit the post, I thought it was a cross You always know Arsenal away is going to be a hard game Second half we did quite well I was gutted about the penalty
Yep. I might not be his greatest admirer, as far as the quality of his play is concerned, but he's totally genuine and he never gives less than 100%. If anything, today he restored my faith in him. The pair of them were plenty good enough in the Championship, and Saints could go away to other sides in the PL and come away with a positive result with those two at the back. If the situation happens again, I certainly won't be as glass-half-empty as I instantly felt when Lovren called in sick today.
I think with Jos, we are very fortunate in having a player that has always shown his enthusiasm for the Club, always the first to applaud the fans. He has never complained at being second fiddle, when he could have found another Club that would start him every time. It is obvious from training videos he is always laughing and encouraging the other players. There will always be occasions when we need a player of his calibre and he stepped in today and gave his all, nevertheless I hope Dejan is back in the fold next week!
Yep, good synopsis. We will come back stronger. And yes, forgot to mention, Jos did alright. My heart sank when I realised that Lovren wasn't playing, but important to acknowledge the hardworking squad players when they put in a shift.
Both MP and JH comments were spot on I really like JH's attitude and thought he had a good game against a very good Arsenal team
Lovren had a vomiting bug. It can take you a few days to get over that...can't say I'd want to be on the training ground after one of those. Let's hope no one else gets it.
He's been on Twitter today... @DejanLovren05: Feeling better today , but its to late now Those boxes are depressed faces, by the way.
While we're all having a Jos love-in, I'm going to point out a teeny-weeny little blemish in his performance, which he'll have been told about, I've no doubt. When Boruc had the ball, and was having difficulty releasing it, it was one of the CBs jobs to drop deep so that Boruc could have an easy pass to him. Even a telegraphed pass [as far as Giroud is concerned, but so easy as he still wouldn't get to it] to one of them, so that the ball could be played out, or kicked long, while in plenty of space. Because Boruc was over on the right side of his penalty area, that meant Fonte didn't have the space to go wide of him and collect in space, so the job fell to Jos to come deep to collect the pass. But he stayed in his position. Lovren would have instantly dropped back. I've seen him do it loads of times this season to collect a pass. So Artur was being a bit of a fool, but when Jos was interviewed post match, he referred to players knowing they should have done this or that. Well, he knows he should have dropped deep to receive the easy pass. Post mortem over. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
Actually in an interview Fonte said he could have made the space for the pass, but didn't anticipate what happened.
