Had my ears full of it through the night. England beaten by a pitch breaking up already and by their own inability to deal with it. Australia's secret weapon.
Not necessarily expecting it, but England frequently follow a low score with a good second innings. However, that really only works if there isn't too much time left. England often start a tour badly and then come out fighting in the second test...but would have been good to start well.
I went to bed at 1.30 this morning with Cook just gone. Could not believe what I woke up to. Carbs top scoring for 40 is about the only positive, other than the fact we avoided the follow on. Think this first test has drifted away from us unfortunately.
I don't believe it. I went to bed when England were 82/2 - right before the wickets started tumbling!
I know it's very early days , but my concern is that they have sussed us out far better than we have sussed them !
Said last Ashes Cook is in some very **** form with the bat. I said he should be dropped for these Ashes, hope he proves me wrong.
One of the most surprising think for me is that Johnson got 4 wickets. He was bowling terribly in the first 10 overs. Their bowlers seem to be effective, even though they are technically very poor bowlers i.e Siddle and Johnson.
I am NO expert , but MV said we are simply not used to bouncy wickets , he mentioned 2 others around the world , at last time we played on those we got slaughtered .
Vaughan may have a point. I wonder if we've focused too much on low, slow tracks because of Swann and the desire to do well in the subcontinent? The other problem is we still need to play at Perth, which is traditionally one of the quickest and bounciest in the world. We're likely to lose this match and in 2010/11 (when Australia were worse than they are now and we were better) they still rolled us over at Perth. I suspected from the start we'd lose at Perth and if we lose there and Brisbane winning the series is going to be a tough ask!
Heard a phone in , the Aussie bloke said who ever wins this test is Favourite for the series win . And Perth was the other bouncy wickets he ( MV ) mentioned , and one in SA I think . Either way , the Aussies are WELL up for this . Time for our batsmen to deliver !!!
To be fair to him he was very reserved about England being on top after day 1, saying wait until England bat before saying who is on top.
