Alright Saints Just a quick question... Do you think you can keep this superb form up and if so for how long? I'm generally surprised at you being 3rd at this stage of the season and you've had some tough games in Liverpool and United away. I feel the next few though will really tell us what you're all about with trips to us and Arsenal etc. but you can't complain at this start! You're certainly winning people over with your style of play and Pochettino looks a class act! I thought you'd get a europa league spot or be just outside that at the start of the season and tbh, I think you'll get a europa league spot... That champions league place could be tough to take as the season continues... But you're playing some ace footie... Lallana, Lambert, Rodriguez, Wanyama and your two centre backs have caught the eye! Anyway I do hope you keep it up apart from the two games you play us! I'm generally worried that we'll lose at the Bridge in a couple of weeks... But i'm buzzing for the trip to St Mary's on New Years Day. Booked hotel and trains for New Years Eve down to Southampton and there is one hotel which is full of Chelsea! Should be a decent trip!
Afternoon BB. We propbably need to bring in a couple more players in January to add depth to the squad but if we stay injury free I see no reason why we can't finish in or around the top 6.
If we stay injury free, a resounding yes. Most people expect us to blow over eventually, but our success is no fluke, we're highly positoned on merit and we'll stay there if we manage to stay fit and injury free.
It's more back up to cover injuries and suspensions. Another winger/striker and possibly a left back.
Wouldn't hurt to have two attacking players (a winger and a central playmaker), and a leftback who can also cover CB. Don't necessarily need to get them all in, but those are the positions lacking depth at the moment.
Our reserve keepers (Davis, Gazzanniga) are not up to Boruc's standard it would be a major blow to us if he is unavailable. Lovren is outstanding CB and his understudies (Hooiveld, Yoshida) are not as good players. And we really dread to think something should happen to Luke Shaw, that would see us crumble down the table. Not because he's the best player ever (although he is quite good), but because his replacement Danny Fox is a huge liability. And considering how well he's playing, it would be hard to cope without our captain Lallana. Apart from these players, i think we're pretty much set.
In a couple years it won't be a problem...have another kid coming through who is thought to be a very bright prospect. Or we could move Joshua Debayo back to fullback. If the name sounds familiar, he's one the (three or four, IIRC) players who've left Chelsea's academy for ours in recent years.
I expect to see more than flying pigs when it's 5am on New Years Day wandering around aimlessly in Southampton! In all seriousness I do think he would like the opportunity to come to us in a couple of years... He's a Chelsea fan and we'd welcome him with open arms!
Haha fair point! Your academy is a class act and long may it be so! Means that we can then take some class players and you can start to be our feeder club You can take the role of being Arsenal and we'll play City!
In Champions League annually, currently topping the table...can live with that, I suppose. In light of our new status, I might as well inform you of our brightest youngsters. Danny Fox is a real starlet, yours for only 15m if you act now. Tadanari Lee is a nipper with some real skill, and Lee Barnard has all the makings of a top striker if you overlook his Spurs roots and occasional pub brawl injury. And can you believe it, they're all under 30!
Ok, but Cortese will see you as the club that paid £50million for Torres and will hold out for a similar fee for Shaw.
This is the same Shaw who got upset recently being linked to Chelsea and Spurs. 'I thought it would stop when I signed', he said despairingly, 'but it's still going on a year later.' Poor lad is scared he will have to go....don't worry Luke, Cortese won't force you to go to Chelsea.
I think they'll pay around 60mil for Shaw in a few years, their transfer policy is absurd. Sold Lukaku and Sturridge to splash big bucks on Torres and Eto'o.
