As I have said elsewhere, Malky could be another Gunn where a hero goes up in smoke. I don't see him as the answer at all and as has been said on several threads there is nobody out there that I think would do the job (well). It is a really bad time to get rid of CH although obviously the debate rages as the season has failed to ignite for us. Hopefully Saturday will be the spark and begin an unbeaten run along the lines of last season. It is really important in my opinion that we score first in the West Ham game.
Hopefully we can get back to our form in the Cardiff game, but without Tettey that is gonna be really hard, I do like Johnson but I really hope he and Garrido sit this one out. Snodgrass should be back so CH should be able to move things around so we don't have to play Johnson. I really hope we get at least a 1-1 draw, I don't want CH to get the boot. We need at least four points from the next three to keep CH.
He could be, but has done a very good job at the two clubs he managed in the Championship - Watford and now Cardiff. okay, the style does not suit a lot of people, and not what we like to call 'the Norwich way', but you can't scoff at what he has achieved so far in his 4 years of management.
I'm a little concerned that if - IF this appointment ever happens, will it be done for the correct reasons. As Thurnby has said, and me on a different thread, it could be seen as an easy escape by the board, on the basis that Malky was a hero during his time here as a player, with his goal against the binners and those two headers in the play-off semi vs Wolves. This would most likely quieten the 'outspoken' element of our supporters, who are more likely to tolerate Hughton-esque set ups and performances if a city old boy is responsible for them? After all, the way he set his Cardiff side up against us recently, especially in the second half, with eleven men behind the ball was typical of the 'do not lose at any cost' mentality we saw (and often complained about) from Hughton last year.
i wouldn't be getting too worried about what the daily mail have to say on the matter just yet! i very much doubt we will have made any enquiries or even narrowed down who any potential replacement would be. that's not to say there won't be some form of contingency in place - names will have been considered throughout hughton's reign just as they were during lambert's tenure - you never know when you might need to turn to someone else for whatever reason. i personally don't want malky to return, although i do think he will at some point in the future because he is so well liked in the area. however: 1) i don't think he is any better than hughton, in fact, i don't think he is as good yet - he might end up better but for the time being i think he is behind hughton, especially in the transfer market 2) his recent 'spat' with the cardiff owner has shown malky to be a little weak. he should not allow his favoured and trusted right-hand man to be thrust out of the door without his consent 3) his cardiff side just rolled up at carrow road and 'parked the bus'. precisely the same reason many want hughton out. had we gone to a side in the bottom three, away from home and made no attempt to win the game the manager would have been crucified - why is this different? simply because he's a norwich legend? double standards from a lot of fans imo, especially as hughton has been adapting our game away from that this season, towards a more progressive style 4) he is one of my all-time norwich heroes. i don't think i could bare seeing him struggle and lets face it, most managers end up failing in the end. i have no personal affection for the current manager. if he fails it will not break my heart but if malky fails? yeah, it would. i'd hate to see him getting the kind of abuse hughton currently is
I think Malky would be a very similar manager tactically to Hughton. Both were defenders during their playing days and they seem to approach life in the Premier League in the same solid, defensive manner.
i have absolutely no issue with that. it is clear that some fans do though! i personally feel it is the best way to survive long term in this league, and try to become more expansive over a longer period of time. if people are prepared to give mackay the time to do that but not hughton, i find that very disappointing and it does make you wonder about the sanity of some people or what their motives are for wanting hughton out because as you say, the style will be similar.
