What was said?

I think WGS said something complimentary. Once a Saint..! ;) Should be on the ITV Player if ITV can be bothered to actually put something on there besides Corrie and bloody Somebody has talent or Factor 40 or something.

On Radio 5 they were going on about the most dangerous strike pairing in the PL, and Rickie and Jay got a mention. Just the once, mind.

Just seen Ashley Young's dive in the CL highlights. Crikey, is that soft or what..? The Spanish player didn't even challenge him.

Dreadful watching Moyes avoiding a straight answer on Sky....he just kept saying that the ref gave it.

Another nice little mention for us on ITV's champions league coverage. <ok>

Massive (if not impossible) for us to make the CL spots, but it shows how far we have come that the media have stopped laughing about our aspirations.

Well it's official - last nights accumulator was the worst anyone has ever done ever. I don't think I called a single result! When was the last time United were involved in a bore draw??

What was said?

Just remembered what WGS was saying. They were talking about Dortmund, and how they press and batter their opponents. After a couple of minutes of that, WGS said... similar to Southampton at the moment. Southampton are employing similar tactics.

So there you go. I was only paying scant attention at the time as I was making a cup of tea, but it went in the ol' grey matter. And now it's popped out..! :)

I like Strachan, but based on last night's show he needs to shut up a bit and give people like Philippe Auclair more time to speak. He's so much more knowledgeable about European football.

Young's dive was a disgrace.

I think there's a case for giving players retrospective red cards. What I mean is, is that the referee can leave an instruction, in his post match report, that a video be played of the incident [if available] and then the player can be punished to replace any card he may or may not have received during the match. Ashley Young wouldn't play more than half a dozen games a season, by that system. Or he would stop diving.

It would almost mean though, that a player couldn't be sent off for simulation. But they aren't anyway, so this would be one method of giving them a more just punishment.

If it were possible for a referee to be 100% sure at the time, I would have a player sent off, there and then, for simulation in the penalty area or in a last defender situation. Mind you, refs seem happy enough to sometimes incorrectly red card defenders, so why not attackers who apparently simulate..? It's merely the other side of the coin. Perhaps that's going too far. :)

Young has form, but that was far from his worst dive. For starters, the Sociedad player did touch him. No, it wasn't enough to bring him down and it shouldn't have been a penalty, but the fact there was even minimal contact puts it in a different category to his normal antics. In fact it's probably into the kind of territory that most players would try.

From what I saw Martinez basically brushed his sleeve. I wouldn't even call it contact.
