I'd rather lose skittles than agger tbh but if the lad doesn't want to fight for his place then perhaps he is now at the wrong club and that's a good thing as I don't want anyone who doesn't have the desire to compete against others in his position.
I rather have Agger than Skrtel - I'm with Gez (probably not as harsh though!) but I don't rate Skrtel that highly. He can have some very good games but is quite inconsistent - he will put in a few crunching tackles and win a few headers but his reading of the game is poor IMO, and isn't suited to our passing game. Latest rumours: - One central defender is expected to leave in January - would have said it's Skrtel but Agger's comments leave me in two minds. - We're tracking Martin Montoya (whose contract expires soon and he's not happy with his limited opportunities) - We have an interest in Pastore (unhappy with his situation at PSG and we have been scouting him) - Ilori could be out on loan in January.
A year ago this would have been very concerning, but after finally getting a full season under his belt without injury he has shown us that he isn't as good as we perhaps thought he was. If he is not willing to fight for his place then off you go, Skrtel has been through this and is now thriving. Time to get your head down Agger and prove your worth.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-Basels-Mohamed-Salah-Derbys-Will-Hughes.html Liverpool to fight Spurs for Basel winger Salah with Hughes also on Rodgers' hit list
Skrtel hasn't put a foot wrong yet, I really don't understand all the hate he gets, I think many didn't expect this run of form from him and are willing him to make a mistake so he gets dropped. Agger has to fight for his place, ability or not.
Overall since his return, I thought he's been bar WBA. His passing was awful and made a number of mistakes one of which was the one that let Anelka through. He's not the worst player in the world by any means but I would definitely have Agger over Skrtel.
reality check. agger and skertl played at a time when we finsihed 7th, 6th 7th... thats reality. last year we had a goal socrer and two guys comgin in from january and we still finished 7th heads should roll. why should agger not go if pepe reina (or best keeper IMO since clemence) has to? skertl certainly should so all in all... toure and shako should be played together and we should be looking for a lot more solid defensive performances with zero errors.
Agger has twatted that he's not going anywhere. He loves Liverpool and will fight to reclaim his spot in the team.
We do have a lot of center backs. Agger Toure Skrtel Sakho Kelly Illori Coates Plus Wisdom out on loan. Coates I expect to leave. Wisdom and Illori are here for the future. That leaves 5, but Kelly is currently our second choice RB. That leaves 4. That is the normal. Four decent, experienced center backs. If we play two thats 2 players for each center back spot. If we continue with three center backs we can count Kelly. That is 5 for 3 spots. With youngsters waiting in the wings for emergencies. Ideal depth. The only change at the back I see needed is another RWB if we continue with the current system for the long term future.
Tony Barrett webchat - Rodgers isn't keen on Robinson or Flanagan. Also says that money is available in January however we may have to wait until the summer to get the players we want.
well I'd not be surprised at either. flanno for me doesn't fit in a top prem club. he's just a decent young fella. league 1? championship.. i dunno robinson is mixed for me. he got sent for for blackpool (again) so i think he's still got to improve. I am going to wonder if he'll get back with 30-40 game sunder his belt and find that rodgers doesn't even look at him in preseason next summer but buys someone. He can be a good player but good enough? i don't know. two year of injury stopped him progressing... i predict a warnock type development for him... might need to move. Rodgers is talking big about january. on about crawling there then strengthening. It will be midfield according to the consensus but I'd rather if posisble to get someone now not next summer with a world cup going on.
Agreed. There are a number of midfield options we could go for - Fernando, Pastore, Hughes, Matuidi, M'Vila. Either way, I'm confident that our committee will identify the right players. I just hope Ayre has the ability to attract them.
Liverpool are rivalling Tottenham for FC Basel winger Mohamed Salah. The speedy 21-year-old Egyptian is in rich form having scored six goals for his country in their World Cup qualification campaign and caught the eye with his performance against Chelsea in the Champions League earlier this season. Sportsmail revealed Spurs boss Andre Villas Boas was keen on Salah earlier this year but wanted to see whether he continued to progress. Villas-Boas has asked to be kept informed with Basel ready to sell in January but the Swiss side want £15m. Liverpool, who are also hopeful of signing Derby County midfielder Will Hughes, are ready to buy again in January as they sense the chance to make an impact on the Premier League title race and Champions League qualification. Salah looks a tricky player.
its not about ayre. Its about two things. 1. personal glory 2. personal wealth most of these players want a club to win them medals at a higher level. ergo moving to big clubs even if they know they are bench warmers... second if someone will pay them 150k per week instead of 70k they are going for the 150k. So in the end.... we got coutinho cos nobody else bid. we saw mkhitaryan and willian make their choices on the glory and the money. We are looking at players who will get 70k epr week max. LFC are not going to buy a 150k per week player for 30mil any time soon. (ie january)
