Nathaniel Edwin Clyne gets into Garth Crooks' TOTW http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24693512 My favourite Saints player this season. Missed the start of the season, but has been so consitant since then.
But no Lallana. What crap. Rodriguez was never going to get in due to Suarez and Torres but Lallana should have been in instead of Townsend.
This recognition by the legendary Garth Crooks is the cherry on top of the cherry on top of the cherry on top of the neneh cherry on top of the cherry on top of the icing on top of the cake and justifies us winning on Saturday.
I chortled where it said... did you know Southampton have only conceded one goal in the five games Clyne has started this season [?] as it reminded me that Saints are getting better known. The lads' overall league goals conceded column must be getting on for the most widely known statistic in UK football, currently. Yesterday afternoon, I'd popped round to my sister who hasn't the remotest interest in Saints or football, and along the way, asked... Have you the faintest idea how many goals Saints have shipped since the season has started..??? Three..! came the deadpan reply, with all the certainty of a seasoned supporter.
I know some people weren't keen to see Chambers dropped (everyone likes an academy player and the old "he's done nothing wrong!" line got a few outings) but Clyne is definitely a superior player - nothing wrong with Chambers, but you've got to love Clyne.
Absolutely spot on. You have to wonder how much the pressure of having an excellent young player after his place motivates Clyne. He is the stand out player in his position at the moment. He was awesome at Old Trafford when we were under pressure, and surely must get chance for England very soon. Chambers may just have to settle for a cup-winners medal!
Clyne won't get a chance for England unless they take the blinkers off and realise Walker is awful. Has a chance of getting ahead of Johnson though with his injuries and age.
I think this orld Cup may be too soon for Nat Clyne, but the Euro and the next WC will be his time. He's going past Walker. Johnson is having a last hurrah.
Townsend was a dead cert for TOTW from the moment he fell down a big hole......and got back out again......isn't he brave coo the commentators. Well not really, he doesn't seem to be particularly hurt. Sigh.
Also he had to deal with the racial abuse from Roy Hodgeson. I'm not getting too worked up that Lallana isn't in the team. There's always going to be a little bit of politics, and besides Townsend has had a big week. I just think it's great that Nathaniel is getting some recognition, he is usually the one to get over looked when everyone's waxing about Lambert, Lallana, Schniederlin, etc. When those guys are having a quiet day, Clyne is quietly putting in another sterling performance.
