Got one of those sneaky feelings today - I think the lovely Mrs Lavelle could land a tasty double at Chepstow (and upset Paul Nicholls in the process) with Shotgun Paddy and Timesremembered. Shotgun Paddy goes in the Novices Chase at 2.25 and is up against the first Nicholls hotpot in Just A Par. There was just 3lbs between the two of them over hurdles and yet Just A Par is 1/2 fav and Shotgun Paddy is 13/2. Shotgun Paddy clearly loves the mud, having won twice and placed 3 times on soft and heavy and he looks a real bit of value here. Timesremembered runs in the Persian War and is up against another short-priced Nicholls favourite in Ceasar Milan, who is around the 2/1 mark whilst Timesremembered is 13/2. Ceasar Milan is owned jointly by the Stewart and Wylie families so certainly has the right credentials in that department, but I find the form of his 2 bumper wins less that stellar, and I'm happy to take him on with Timesremembered. The Akbar gelding won on hurdling debut at Uttoxeter and, although he put in some dodgy leaps, he clearly has a decent motor as he led all the way and pulled out more when challenged from 2 out to win readily from Charlie Longsdon's No No Mac, with the 3rd, Jonjo's Dakar run (who had previously finished 5th in the Aintree Champion Bumper) miles back. Going further back to his pointing days, Timesremembered started with 2 second-placed efforts before winning at the 3rd time of asking on soft/heavy from a horse called Mr Grey, who subsequently won a P2P by a distance. You have to really stay to win the Persian War and I think Timesremembered has a very decent chance today.

E/W singles and a double and hopefully a big smile on lovely Emma's face this afternoon.

Don't know if you saw the Morning Line Oddy, but PN was quite enthusiastic (for him) about Just A Par, bringing the horse out for the cameras. A no bet race for me, but loving the chance of Timesremembered, regardless of what the lovely Emma has on her face :D

Incidentally Mr Grey makes his rules debut at Stratford on Thursday <ok>

I'm disappointed at Medicean Man's defection from the 5f lottery at Donny, so am replacing him with Pearl Blue who's price has slumped following Pricewise's selection.

Don't get your knickers in a twist, Uncle, but, you know, multiples are basically lousy bets. They should only be tried as a 'fun' wager, I'm sure you know that. Bookmakers love Yankees and whatnot, which usually result in the punter getting a Christmas Card from them. A bad sign in itself. One of the best tipsters on the old BBC forum, and for a while on this one, was a gentleman named Galaxy. He never advocated a multiple bet, just singles carefully thought out. He was a great believer in studying video form, and carefully noted horses who ran well, were unlucky in running, etc. etc. Man, he used to tip winners, just like Stick does today. Don't believe Stick ever offers fancy Yankees and the like?

Now watch all yours win and make a complete ass of yours truly! <laugh>. That won't bother me, so good luck to you today! <ok>
Afternoon swan I hate saturday betting singles are big stakes if everything looks right 3 or 4 times a month , daily betting is minimal for intrest and focus plus to keep ones self up to speed
Todays betting is small for competition purposes only hence first 5 at Aintree , my betting is not really fo the comp but last weeks winners seen me to the worthy hights of a winner under similar tactics . Have you joined yet anyway ? The more the that join the better the game and the more work for the good man chan.
If it makes you relax a little I have had 10p bets with the notoriously scrooge bookmakers that people cant extract big money from you know who so all the luck will be needed.

Swanny is correct - multiples are a bookies gravy, they rely on the average punters dream of winning thousands for a minor outlay, a bit like the lottery. But recreational betting is all about having a bit of fun, and if you can, turning a profit. If doing lucky 15's; 31's; yankees etc gets your juices flowing, well where's the harm?

Personally I only do singles and sometimes doubles - but that's more to do with my cautious nature and tight fisted northern upbringing <laugh>

If all you do is small stakes then lucky 15/31/63 etc are really the only worthwhile bets to do. For me personally singles wouldn't be worth it I never stake much so there'd be no real fun just doing singles at the stakes I bet with

When I enter "Cyc's comp" I usually put a €1 win or €0.50 e/w Lucky 31 or Canadian on my selections just for a laugh. Best return I've had to date is €440 <ok> and have had several 3-figure sums. Just adds a bit of interest to the afternoon.

First winner of the day and probably the last - can't name it coz I didn't name it beforehand <doh>

Kashmir Peak ew in next!

Gordon Elliot sends one all the way to Stratford for a seller, with Timmy Murphy taking the ride. That has to be a winner, surely? Formal Bid <ok>

Cool baranca loves conditions good jockey combo good form and good time/dist record

Very nice field for the Old Roan, a real credit to old boy Monet's Garden and for me another dashing grey, Alan King's Walkon, will win. Biggest bet of the day for me (unless it wins, then I'll have a bigger one on Emma's horse in the Persian War).
