Quite surprising actually - will definitely keep an eye on him in the future.

Dembele is such a good player - would love to have had him at LFC. Spurs are blessed in the central midfield dept with Dembele, Capoue (only £9m!!), Sandro and Paulinho.

Will be interesting to see how Lucas and Gerrard deal with him on Saturday!

Very good midfield, not a big amount of creativity there, though they still have Holtby and Erisken to play in the AM role. Personally thought we missed a trick not boinb for Capoue, again he would of been perfect for our midfield.. I wonder if BR actually wants a physical DM?

Well I've heard from quite a few people that Rodgers is after a DM...

Capoue would have been a great buy - shame he's injured but prior to that, you can see his energy, great tackling, closing down instantly. Perfect type of player we need in our midfield at the moment.

Rumours that we've been looking at M'Vila, Gonalons and Matic.

zone 5 boys and girls... christian eriksen at spurs is a crying shame for me.

zone 1 mingolet
zone 2 toure and sahko
zone 3 lucas for now, rodgers sid he'd build his team round him.... not any more i feel
zone 4 johnson and cissohko or enrique
zone 5 should imo be eriksen and coutinho or gerrard
zone 6 should be suarez all day and maybe coutinho and eriksen
zone 7 is stuuridge

i weep bitter tears of anguish at the fact that players like mata are un appreciated and eriksen was not approached by us.

thinking of allen and even henderson in this regard is frankly.... FFS!!!

5. Another great visual MITO. It wont surprise you that I agree with you either, especially on Eriksen (sig)

Yeah I'd love to see us play a game with Eriksen and Coutinho in centre midfield. If they think Gerrard isn't good enough defensively then I can't imagine what they'd think about those two together...

i unashamedly copied it out as it gives an insight into rodger's end game. whether or not its agreed with is separate but it shows how he thinks

Would be refreshing to spend a lot of money on real quality. ( not saying the other buys have been bad, good, etc just saying you hit those figures they better be worth it!!).

i think we will sel suarez for 60million to real next summer. in fact if you seriously look at things there are 3 factors in spurs favour... 1. one off huge finance form real. 2. AVB in charge as a manager of reputation. 3. located in london.

frnakly they got a rep for being the coming club from one CL tilt and after that doing nowt i nthe europa. I feel big money coming in funded all thier spending and thats done now, its all about AVB.

Us.... we have a reputation as ebing o nthe slide, nearly bankrupt etc etc, under paying not being able to afford etc etc. We have rodgers as manager who has shown difficulty in attracting the big names... thought costa and mkhitaryan chose wisely in my view. ahtletico are on the up and dortmund are right now very good.... willian chose spurs over us then screwed them once chelsea came in.

so.....

60mi lto spend and thats two players... but mata? We will need to be 4th this year to attract players. I think getting sahko was a good boost but in his case it was too late to play us off and we paid more than anyone else would.... this is why i still utterly fail to see why alberto and aspas were bought for the same price as eriksen... i leave ilori out of it as i think he would have come in as sahko was unlikely.

I would wish for a mata and a top midfielder to come in in this zone 3 role but....... i don't see it unless we change our reputation. 4th and an fa cup would make some sit up and take notice.... but we need to get into europe and show that we are the next to break the top 4...

spurs

Heurelho Gomes
Kyle Walker
Danny Rose
Younès Kaboul
Jan Vertonghen
Vlad Chiricheș
Aaron Lennon
Paulinho
Roberto Soldado
Emmanuel Adebayor
Erik Lamela
Lewis Holtby
Étienne Capoue
Andros Townsend
Jermain Defoe
Mousa Dembélé
2Michael Dawson
Nacer Chadli
Gylfi Sigurðsson
Christian Eriksen
Brad Friedel
Hugo Lloris
Sandro
Zeki Fryers
Harry Kane

funny how their nearly best player is townend and funny how the press are out to now make out he's the new bale after his england antics... any way you cut it they have a lot more quality that we do, keeper, defenders, certianly midfield and up front they are decent too.

For me our real quality is in maybe 5 players so as bad as it is ferguson is right that we need 8 players to go for the title. but then... most every side is only 8 players from a title.

Eriksen's price was skewed because he only had 12 months left on his contract. Plus as you've pointed out yourself we've had trouble trying to beat Spurs to certain players so why would this be any different? So we are forced to take punts on players that aren't being looked at by other top teams like Aspas, Coutinho, Alberto, Sturridge, Moses, Ilori etc.

13. The price being skewed is irrelevant, it would have been the same for us had we gone for him. If we were interested, we took far too long about it and that is what cost us (if anything)

The point is he made a whole post about all the things Spurs have in their favour and how much more attractive they are than us which sort of contradicts his point that we missed a trick by not signing Eriksen doesn't it?

If we wanted Eriksen, we would have got him IMO. Rodgers wanted a goal scoring midfielder hence he targeted Mkhitarayan and Costa (striker/support striker).

Eriksen was inconsistent for Ajax and didn't score many goals so I can understand the logic for not going for him - but the price difference between Alberto and Eriksen is relatively small so it doesn't make sense.

Never mind.

As good as Mata is - £30m is a lot and what I like about our new transfer policy is that we won't spend more on a player than what he is worth. You can argue that Mata is worth that much but I feel we can the next Mata at better value.

We spent £20-25m on the likes of Suarez and Torres, £10m on Alonso, £18m on Mascherano etc etc. This is great value and all of these players were very good and we then turned them world class.

I rather we continue down this route rather than buying already established world class players and crazy prices.

Re. Fergie's assessment that we're 8 players away - he's not far off. We are two top class central midfielders away from having a strong first 11. Then I suppose the other 6 would be solid squad players i.e right back, number 10, striker, keeper ...

I think we need at least 1 striker, 1 creative attacking mid, 1 tidy defensive midfielder, 1 permanent left back, a right back and another keeper. Thats 6. But we could possibly win it with 3 of them if they are the right players.

Rumours are starting to heat up now on Fernando Reges of Porto.

26 year old DM whose contract will be expiring next year. However, Everton, Monaco and Man Utd are interested - in addition, he'll be wanting a big salary.
