Was praised by Martin Keown on 5 live Yesterday,keown said he is the best Keeper in the P/L,he also thinks Defoe is better than Soldaldo,except in his link-up play,which is keeping Soldaldo in the side,Keown said he would rather play against Bobby than Defoe

I thought he said Soldado was only being picked because of the size of his fee ??
 
Soldado suits our system far better than Defoe does. I don't like to judge anyone on one game, but Defoe blew his chance badly against West Ham.
Keown was a very good defender, but I don't think he's much of a pundit. He questioned the booking that Westwood received for his appalling foul on Holtby, for a start.

Not sure why we always seem to get these twats that have such obvious bias against us, either. Arsenal youth player who spent three years at Villa Park. Who does he want to win?
Any chance of a bit of balance, seeing as it's on the BBC?

Also heard him pre match stating that he is amazed that Dembele wasn't playing as he is a better option than Holtby and Eriksen playing behind the striker. Which would indicate to me that he hasn't seen much of us at all, as Dembele for me looks completely lost whenever he's played there and looks far more comfortable lying deeper. Does not suggest he's seen Holtby a great deal as over the last month or so he has staked a claim to play behind the striker either through his assists or work rate.
 
I read a few of Keowns comments on the Beeb's live text at full time and he did seem to talk a lot of ****.

"Why is Andros Townsend tied down on the right? He needs to move inside to get the bigger picture, that is what the manager should be telling him." Neville just unwittingly schooled him on this in his bit on MNF.

At half time "The half finished as we thought it would start. The goal continues an excellent few weeks for Andros Townsend, and was probably just about merited as Tottenham edged possession." followed by a BBC graphic showing we had 69% possession :D

After our second... "Really, it was against the run of play."

"Andros Townsend is involved in most things. He has to prove he is as good a player at club level as at international level." and then later "Andros Townsend is growing in confidence. He is realising what a good player he is."

His defensive analysis and tactical lessons he was doing for the Beeb at the Confederations cup were embarrassing too, can't stand him.

Well he's right about Hugo being the best in the league.

As for Soldado and Defoe, it's too early to say who's better/ better suited.

Regardless of what many people (mainly negative Spurs fans) say about Defoe, he's a fantastic player to have in our ranks, whether that be a starter or not. He's better than the majority of strikers in the PL and the fact that we don't consider him first choice shows our strength (or potential strength at least) in the position.

Soldado looks like a real classy finisher, someone that won't really need a second chance when put through on goal. His penalties oozed composure and the finish at Villa was superb, his running off the ball and finding space is also second to none. It still remains to be seen though if he will flourish in the system we play. I do beliebe that if we can get him the service he requires, then the guy will reach 20 goals (easily) this season.
 
Defoe is great to have, a player who'll score 15-20 in all competitions as a sub, as he's done the last couple of years. Soldado is much better for the team we have; by my very rough count he's been involved in at least half our goals. I don't care if he hasn't been scoring them, as long as he's involved in creating them, he's doing well.

You'd think Defoe would be better on a team that breaks with speed, but the year we did that best, Ade started almost every game. Defoe is great either when he's on a hot streak or facing poor or tired defenders.

When Defoe is hot, I should add to be fair, he looks like he'll score any moment and does other things well also, including holding the ball up and helping out defensively. The problem is that a start or three seems to be enough to get him off his hot streak.
 
If you just looked at Lloris' CS record this year, his ability to play sweeper keeper and know he is/was France captain I could see how you might think he is best keeper in the league.

However if you see some of the goals he has let in you would be disapointed. I really like him, but he is not then best. He could become the best though.

Imo, Begavic (who we did actually own I think for a few minutes as part of the deals with Pompey involving Defoe, Kaboul and crouchy coming) is the best.

I agree, I think it's the fact that he's so quick off his line, which we really need, that makes him so great for us but as you say his shot stopping isn't anything special.

I'm actually inclined to agree with KnR. I thought Mignolet was the best 'keeper in the league last year.

I'm not sure Keown would've gone that far, he was just using the selection as a stick to beat AVB/Spurs with. The same as how someone mentioned that he disagreed with Holtby starting over Dembele. Motson talks more sense than Keown and he doesn't have a clue!
