I really couldn't care less whether Harry is a liar/wide-boy/takes or doesn't take bungs/can't read or write etc etc.
He's got us playing some very good football and has signed some very good players. We're joint top of the league and it's a pleasure to watch us play again.

No problems here that I can see!!

Yes, we're playing well under HR, but I can't ignore the baggage - or that he failed to keep us up last year, or that he wanted away in the summer, or that nothing's ever his fault, or that he can't keep his twitchy mouth shut.

I can!! Each to their own eh?

I'm not sure that previous decades were so non-PC; it's more of a case that racism, intended or not, was so deeply embedded in British society that remarks such as 'chinky' or whatever were complete the norm and thoroughly acceptable.

Flyer might love the fact that racist thoughts didn't creep into Roy's brain when he made the remark, and they probably didn't; but this only goes to show that certain throught patterns and cultural stereotypes that were once 'normal' and acceptable are no longer - and for good reason. That Roy apologised shows this.

are we suggesting here that the mere mention of the word 'monkey' these days warrants a round of public apologies on the off-chance somebody gets offended? Forgive me if I'm not understanding this correctly.

Come on Chaz, 'feed the monkey', whilst innocently meant, is hardly a 'mere mention' is it?

Cheers Stroller.

"Everything I know about morality and the obligations of men, I owe it to football" H. Redknapp. ...........perhaps not, but I'll save it for the Pub Quiz thread.

My understanding was that he didn't actually tell the joke (wouldn't have thought there was time for joke-telling at half-time), but that he used the phrase 'feed the monkey' and then had to explain the context afterwards. I don't believe he was being racist but he was certainly insensitive and someone in his position should know better. As I said, if no-one had been offended, we wouldn't know it had happened.

I don't think offence comes intonit , it would have been reported to kick it out if offence was taken.

someone took the chance to make thousands of pounds out of this.

Is it PC to get offended by people getting offended because they don't think other people should get offended?

Like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel, never ending or beginning, on an ever spinning reel, like a snowball down a mountain...all together now....like the circles that you find, in the windmills of your mind (or whats left of it).

Viva the Space Monkeys! They are the only victims.

Perhaps espresso and gorgonzola at 10.30 pm is a bad combo.

I think Gareth Bale looks a bit like a monkey. Am I a racialist then?

I was thinking that, if he was black, everyone would also think he looked like a monkey as well but could not say it for fear of being called a racist despite the fact his features would make him look like a monkey and not the colour of his skin.

people who aren't very bright have a knee jerk reaction to isms and can see the difference between insensitivy and racism.

Why would anyone in that dressing room need a few grand so badly?
