not many good ens came through while he was there

That's not quite true Mr Brown!
Aidy White was one of his, & so was a young Dom Poleon amongst others (which were usually flogged off by Bates before they had reached full potential at ER, Garbutt for example who went to Everton).
The two lads that Chelsea poached (& paid £5m for) were his academy lads too.

The most notable player at the Academy under Pugh was a certain Mr Sam Byram. Interestingly Gwyn Williams (head scout & Bates 'chum') advised Daral to get rid of Byram as in his 'expert' opinion, Byram didn't have what it took to make the grade!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Say no more!!

Not only is he a good coach, he is a decent bloke too.
So Lambrettaman, I think you have got a good 'un there.
Best of Luck Pughey

Nice one, cheers for the info.

We have a long history of not getting any of our academy players into the first team. In recent years we've only had four players who made any first team appearances, three of them were subsequently given away and the fourth is about to be bought by Blackburn. It would be good if we could finally get one decent player into the first team, particularly if he's local. <ok>

OLM

in that case he's better than what you have ever had :)

we have seen a lot of talent come through our ranks so that maybe why I don't rate him too high but he was also hindered by Bates sacking off other quality staff in the academy

His predecessors were all fighting a losing battle, we've got a terrible academy set-up, I say academy, it's actually just a field.

It seems we're moving the academy in March, to a much better set-up, so maybe he'll have more of a chance than the others.

Bizarrely, the academy will then have better facilities than the first team. <doh>
