Seem to be playing with a lot more pride nowadays.

Congrats to Denmark for making the play-offs and Iceland too.


Corrected. Denmark didn't make it in the end. Worst record of the 9 second place teams.
 
Having announced his international retirement,I cannot see the benefit of Bellamy playing in the last two games.
Surely an opportunity was lost to give a future prospect,or two,the experience of international football.
Poor management decision by Coleman.
 
Didn't notice Bosnia have qualified.

Keeps up the record of at least one new country in every Finals. (only one in 1950 (England) and 2010 (Slovakia)).

Iceland, Jordan, Burkina Faso, Ethiopa, and Panama still have a chance to qualify for the first time.
 
Yea, not a bad performance from the lads.
I do spend most of my time dissappointed in the Welsh National Football team, but every so often, they give you a glimmer of hope.
We had it on a couple of occasions with Speed. Can't remember many times we have had it with Coleman though...But these last 2 efforts have been pretty good. even if we had lost, I still would have been pleased with the patched up teams performance.

He has never set the world alight, but at the age of 24 to get 50 caps for Wales shows he is always committed to us. He is always there.

And yes, Bellamy, you have been great for us, in a difficult period in our national teams history. Thanks for the efforts.

You mean in the last two injury-ravaged games where 2 good results have meant they may sneak into the 3rd pot for the Euro qualifying?
 
Yes,that's right,they were two meaningless games,since no chance of qualifying.
Better to have taken someone off the bench,there were plenty on there,and see what they could do.
Bellamy is now yesterday's news.
Missed opportunity,but I can see you disagree,and that's O.K.

The result in every game (even friendlies) affects the rankings.

Rankings determine in what seeding pot you are in for the draw for Euros or World Cup.

Therefore, on account of this alone, no game is meaningless.
 
Sorry to disillusion you,but do you really think it matters one jot what seeding pot Wales' football team are in?

Now if you are talking Wales' rugby team,well,that's a whole different ball game.
 
There's o point in having 11 youngsters getting thrashed. You need a mix - and Bellamy is agood example to them. Besides, just because he's honest enough to say that he's retiring, should he punished and dropped? It's far better for him to make his intentions clear so everyone's on the same page. Besides, who was he going to get dropped for?
 
The so called "first X1" are not averse to "getting thrashed",Goodland,and I didn't advocate picking "11 youngsters".
"You need a mix",couldn't agree more,and Bellamy wouldn't have been "punished" by sitting on the bench,he could have come on for a token cap,after giving a promising youngster a run out. We do have them,don't we? There was a small army of players on the bench,what's the point of that,if none are worthy of taking the field.
Bellamy has served his country well down the years,but in my opinion,in the wake of his announcement,shouldn't have been first choice. He would have understood being left out,if adequate reasons were provided. Coleman probably couldn't articulate sufficiently to make that point,so took the easy option,and picked him.
Just my observations,and everyone is entitled to them.
 
I can see where you're coming from, but I don't think Bellamy's retirement should have any bearing on him being picked or not. Pick the best squad available, and maybe have a couple of youngsters on the bench. They'll probably learn more playing with Bellamy than in place of him.
 
Having failed,yet again,to qualify,the real benefit of the last two games should have been to see if one or two newcomers were up to it. A chance wasted,is my belief.
Sure, pick the best squad,but with almost as many players on the bench,I'm not actually convinced that Coleman had any idea who his best team were. Even the so called best teams have failed abysmally.
I'm not Bellamy bashing,far from it. His commitment to the Welsh cause has been exemplary down the years,but I'm not sure youngsters would have learned any more by watching him than they have already.
The last two results have probably won Coleman a new three/four year deal. Not sure the team will be any the better for that.

If Wales will never qualify, as you implied, what should they be seeking to achieve?
 
My beliefs/opinions re the ability of the Welsh team to qualify for any tournament,to quote Humphrey Bogart,"don't amount to a hill of beans",since I have no input into their success,or otherwise.
They should,of course, be seeking to achieve whatever it is they set out to achieve. That's a given,or should be. My opinions won't affect that one bit.
Their track record on the big stage is lamentable,and statistics would be inclined to confirm that.
Perhaps the football following Wales fans' have too high expectations,hoping to emulate the rugby teams that have represented the country so famously,for such a long time.
History dictates that Wales will always just make up the numbers in the football arena.
Having two, three,or more "star names" in the team,really guarantees nothing.
In fact,it can be a hindrance, because when the "stars" are unavailable,there is no-one to adequately fill the gap.

What do you think they should be seeking to achieve?
 
Already answered,"whatever it is that they set out to achieve",or at least get close to it,and give their devoted fans' some hope and pride. But it never seems to happen. Perhaps you should ask the manager that very question,but I wouldn't expect a very coherent reply.
 
Am sure you would be on here Lib if he played a youth instead of Bellamy and we lost 5-0 asking why he didn't play Bellamy as respect for his years of playing for Wales.
