I've explained how this could be done so many times I'm bored with the explanation.

 

I like the idea that a mate at work came up with , Good solid safety rules and Regs , but then anything goes , like the Whacky racers .

Imagine a Brabham fan car , a six wheel Tyrell , a dual Chassis Lotus , the Brabham Delta car , the Williams car of 1993 etc !!!!!!!

Now 'scuse me whilst I butt in on something I do have a little bit of knowledge about. I do get amused TSS at the exponents of MotoGP constantly berating four wheeled fans as there was a period not so long ago that MotoGP was ball-achingly dull too, it's just that currently it's on a bit of a wave. Likewise, people tend to forget that Hamilton's championship year and the one's around it were up there in the most exciting seasons in living memory. Classic racing. The problem now is a Newey one. He's SO good (and Vettel ain't bad either) that we have a situation of dominance. People harking back to the 80s and 90s - well '88/'89 were only thrilling because of the inter team rivalry between Senna and Prost. McLaren themselves were country miles ahead (remember in 88, they won all but ONE race). Let's not get rose-tinted about things.

Take Newey and the Red Bulls out of the equation and this season would have been great - the last Grand Prix would have been a cracker. The revised rules which will make engines more important should help level the field. Where they haven't quite worked things out is in the tyre manufacturing - the whole 'driving at 50%' thing feels like anathema to actual racing, and the drivers themselves hate that aspect. They should be in a position where they can push at least 85-90% the whole time.

It's not *that* far away from being in very healthy form right now. Newey won't last forever, and as someone has already stated, RBR have leaked some aerodynamicists to McLaren recently - not just Peter Prodromou, there are other key bods off there too.

Fear not, salvation waits just around the corner.

 

Harking back to the 80's and 90's is aimed at me I expect ( NP if it is ) but I said EARLY 80's and 90's .

Still I do totally agree THE main man in RBR is Adrian Newey !!!

I have said at work for a while Newey is the Man in FI and has been for a few years , IF he can get RBR to the current performance NEXT year , he is a GOD !

 

Not really aimed at anyone Jasper, it's a common criticism that's levelled, but the 80's and 90's, although good in terms of wheel-banging, danger fuelled, sliding lunacy had periods of dullness (not to mention political instability) in the sport too. There have been some seasons recently equally as good as any of the perceived classic seasons, just we like to swim in a nostalgic sea of comfort sometimes!

 

Yes, but MotoGP's ball-achingly dull periods are fairly short and surrounded by long seasonal periods of incredibly exciting racing. And I've been watching it a long time, so I should know.

However, not as long as I've watched F1 [by sheer inaccessibility to motorbike racing]. I estimate that I watched Formula One nearly thirty years before I gave up because I was falling asleep on a Sunday afternoon every time, in the last few years. Real racing involves people winning races out on the track, not in the pits. And if it annoys you slightly that MotoGP people go on about F1 being boring it's because there's almost certainly a real element of truth in what they say.

 

Agree about the dull races as well , which race was it that JV won by leading with a Ferrari so fat in a straight line , the others could not get passed him , even though his car was a dog in the corners ?

You are right , peaks & troughs , still love the sport , just not as much as I di , keep watching in the hope it will get better again .

PS Proudest moment for me , being at SPA in 98 , had supported Jordan from Day 1 , and got such **** over it , was I ever dishing it out THAT NIGHT !!!!!

 

Currently yes , but it has not always been the case , and hopefully not for much longer .

 

But you admit to having given up on F1 a few years ago, but still feel in a position to comment on how boring it is now? Despite not watching it?

 

In all honesty, bar the Schumacher dominated years and the current Vettel ones, the periods of F1 boredom are equally short. It's like saying the Rossi years were ALL boring. Much like now, it's only boring if you're watching Vettel exclusively. The racing behind him is good.

 

The first episode of the new Walking Dead series broke viewing records in the USA. 16.1m people watched it! Can't wait to see it now.

 

F1 to me just seems like "let's see which massive corporation can build the best car".

 

If F1 ever becomes exciting again, I might go back to watching it, but I'm not holding my breath. What I'm really pissed off about is that if I want to watch MotoGP next season on a conventional TV I have to either ditch my principles and subscribe to SKY [we'll see the Second Coming first..] or subscribe to BT Broadband [Christ NO.! ], or subcribe to Virgin Media, which is something I'm not sanguine about either, due to their past performance.

 

If that satisfies you, LTL, that's fine. That's really all that is important, after all.

By the way. Rossi is no Schumacher. Rossi has a delightful personality. In fact, all the riders seem much more like ordinary people.

 

Which is why I really want the return of the independent teams , with Manufacturer assistance .

 

Watching Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad has made me realise it isn't really that great.
