Thanks Nines, that is a great position to be in as I know coming from you the observation should be very reliable
No problem, thanks very much for sharing - my only glimpse of this game so far! From the Middlesborough post-game tunnel cam, I note Charlie Austin at 1:52 with his shoulder all bandaged up? Perhaps this is just precautionary game preparation, but I seem to recall when failed his Hull medical that a shoulder injury was mentioned, but this obviously seems to be a manageable condition? I note on his wiki bio:- "Despite suffering a dislocated shoulder in September(2010), Austin scored another 17 goals in 27 games (for Swindon) at the start of the 2010–11 season. His form prompted several Championship clubs to make offers for him during the January transfer window" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Austin His total games for Burnley in 2012-13 season is only 37 out of 46 possible and if you look at this in detail, there are 2 blocks of 4 games where he was not playing - not sure if that was due to this injury? http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/charlie-austin/leistungsdaten/spieler_129627_2012.html please log in to view this image Charlie Austin's double earns victory over Barnsley and keeps QPR level on points with Championship leaders Burnley. He has a 100% record scoring penalties so far, and also sending the keeper the wrong way each time - long may that last!
Dislocated shoulders are always suspect for the rest of the life of someone who has had one. I was a Uni with a rugby player, who played for England a couple of times, who's shoulder went at least once a year, his career ended at 24/5. He was also a very bright lad, ended up a Don at Cambridge. A prop in my son's colts team did his shoulder last year. They were playing a match last Wednesday and he felt it go again - popped out and back in, still a few weeks out for it to settle. The strapping is precautionary, hopefully for a footballer the chances of a repeat injury are much lower. Meanwhile my lad has done his knee yet again, thankfully not as bad as last time which needed a six month lay off, thankfully no crutches required looks like a twist rather than a tear, but another couple of weeks out. He also has to play with a heavily bound right had, result of a dislocated thumb as a 14 year old. Sport, especially heavy contact sport and those which require change of direction at speed, is seriously bad for your health.
Yup, dont think you can compare rugby players injuries, particularly shoulders and backs, with footballers injuries, which are mainly knees, ligaments, feet/ankles. I dislocated my shoulder when I was at school, but not surprisingly it affected my swimming, which I did competitively. But all I had to do was certain warmups, which greatly reduced any problems.
Thanks for your insight - hope your lad is on the mend soon and fully recovers. The attached Swindon Town articles discuss his original injury:- Given his continued goal scoring abilities over the past 3 years, with three different clubs, this injury has obviously not held him back and would definitely appear to be manageable. After the Jimmy Bullard fiaso, Hull would certainly have been nervous following his medical (which likely included a shoulder MRI scan), of signing another expensive crock to a long term contract - happily their loss, our gain. League goals:- Years Team Apps (Goals) 2009â2011 Swindon Town 54 (31) 2011â2013 Burnley 82 (41) 2013â Queens Park Rangers 9 (5) Burnley:- Season Player Apps (Goals) 2012â13 Charlie Austin 37 (25) 2011â12 Charlie Austin 41 (16) I do note though that he was out of the Burnley team for a two blocks of 4 games (not sure if related to this injury), so potentially we this situation could occur again with us, so we definitely require additional striker cover in our squad. Having Chevy onboard is a great start. 14 September, 2010 SWINDON TOWN: Austin receives injury boost CHARLIE Austin's injured left shoulder is "not likely to rule him out long-term", according to club physio Dick Mackey. The young striker, who suffered the dislocation during Saturday's 1-0 win over Southampton in League One, will also not require immediate surgery. Austin visited a specialist in Bristol tonight and Mackey said: âThe specialist was happy with the range of movement that Charlie has for someone who suffered a brief dislocation only on Saturday. âWe will continue to monitor his recovery on a daily basis and although we wonât be putting a timescale on his comeback at this stage, the injury is not likely to rule him out long-term. âAt this stage the decision has been taken to let Charlie continue with his rehabilitation in a conservative manner, which does not include surgery." http://www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/news/8391369.BREAKING_NEWS__Austin_receives_injury_boost/ 15 September, 2010 SWINDON TOWN: Austin to avoid surgery CHARLIE Austin's injured left shoulder is "not likely to rule him out long-term", according to club physio Dick Mackey. But the young Town striker, who does not need surgery, has revealed he is âguttedâ that he will miss out on first-team action with the County Ground side. The 21-year-old dislocated his shoulder in a collision with Southampton stopper Kelvin Davis during Saturday's 1-0 home win over the Saints in League One. A visit to a specialist in Bristol last night revealed the injury was not as bad as first feared, but Mackey has refused to earmark a return date for one of Swindonâs most prized assets. âThe specialist was happy with the range of movement that Charlie has for someone who suffered a brief dislocation only on Saturday,â said Mackey. âWe will continue to monitor his recovery on a daily basis and although we wonât be putting a timescale on his comeback at this stage, the injury is not likely to rule him out long-term. âAt this stage the decision has been taken to let Charlie continue with his rehabilitation in a conservative manner, which does not include surgery.â But in spite of the good news, Austinâs recovery is unlikely to be immediate and the front man has told of his frustration at the prospect of a spell away from first-team football. âIâm gutted to be honest,â said Austin. âItâs always good to be involved, like it was when we won on Saturday. âItâs always nice to be involved and itâs not the same watching on the sidelines from what itâs like being out there.â But sought-after hotshot Austin has vowed to work hard to regain full fitness as quickly as he can. âYouâre always going to be using your shoulder so itâs difficult to think about, but as long as I can get good rehab hopefully I can get back in the side quickly,â he said. http://www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/sport/8391397.Austin_to_avoid_surgery/
