Barnsley view of the game - sounds like it could have been 6-0 for us under different circumstances.

    QPR 2 (Austin 66, 87 pen)
    Reds 0

There wasn’t much in it at Loftus Road and the Reds can hold their heads high, but QPR claimed all three points with victory over the Reds.

It was a steady opening and neither side could muster up an attempt at goal in the opening exchanges with QPR enjoying most of the ball in the middle of the park.

Hoops did get a shot away but Kranjcar could only fluff his effort on the turn 12 yards out wide. Not long after on 17 minutes, Robert Green had to be alert to pal away Kennedy’s delivery that seemed to be heading for the top corner.

At the other end Austin saw his close-range strike blocked wide and from the resulting corner Richard Dunne rose highest to head at goal with Butland beaten but Perkins was on hand to clear off the line with 20 played.

Paddy McCourt got into the swing of things when he jinked past Barton – leaving the former Newcastle man on the deck – before laying off for Perkins to shoot wide from 25 yards.

On 36 minutes it took an incredible double save from Jack Butland to prevent the hosts from opening the scoring as Austin latched onto Assou-Ekotto’s cross. Butland spread himself well to deny Austin from 12 yards out before denying Faurlin once more from the rebound.

    Second half

The Reds started the second half in confident fashion and Peter Ramage saw his header sail over from an out-swinging corner. At the other end Joseph Barton fired a free-kick well over from just over 25 yards.

On 54 minutes the Reds made their first change as Marcus Pedersen replaced Jason Scotland in attack. Paddy McCourt didn’t know it but Kranjcar’s shot was drifting wide when he cleared off the line for a corner on 58 minutes.

Rangers made their first change with Junior Hoilett replacing Faurlin and he made an immediate impact as he danced in from the left to tee up Austin who tucked home from eight yards on 66 minutes.

The injured Peter Ramage had to be replaced to on came Bobby Hassell for his first appearance of the season.

Tomasz Cywka came on for Jacob Mellis with less than 20 minutes to play as the Reds looked to freshen up their attacking options in search of a leveller.

Charlie Austin got into the area and chucked himself to the ground as Martin Cranie closed in and the referee pointed to the spot. Austin stepped up and sent Butland the wrong way for 2-0.

    Teams

QPR: Green, Simpson, Dunne, Hill, Assou-Ekotto, Carroll, Barton, Faurlin (Hoilett 62), O’Neil (Henry 80), Kranjcar, Austin.
Subs: Murphy, Traore, Jenas, Chevanton, Ehmer.

Reds: Butland, Ramage (Hassell 67), Kennedy, Cranie, O'Grady, Perkins, Wiseman, Mellis (Cywka 71), Fox, McCourt, Scotland (Pedersen 54).
    Subs: O'Brien, Dawson, Etuhu, Noble-Lazarus.
    Referee: David Phillips

    Attendance: 16202 (384 Reds)

    Flitcroft's QPR Reaction

Reds Manager David Flitcroft caught up with the press following today's 2-0 defeat at QPR.

"For 60-70 minutes we've come here to do a task but 20 seconds have cost us," he said.

"We kept them quiet and their fans on the low side. But the goal gave them the edge and the verve.

"With a bit more belief first half I felt we could have caused them more problems.

"The first half was evenly matched. Second half - we allowed them a foothold. We lacked belief and we could have driven forward more.

"The first goal is sloppiness on our part from a short corner and you can't give Charlie Austin an inch in this league.

"I'm disappointed we didn't grasp the nettle because we had good opportunities in their last third to be a bit more adventurous.

"We were comfy but you've got to see details through. You can afford to switch off for half a second."

Flitcroft revealed defender Peter Ramage has sustained a thigh knock and will be monitored over the next week.

The Barnsley boss also revealed he has 'irons in the fire' regarding a left-sided defender and players 'could move out' next week on loan.

Nice one, we are about to crack open the prosecco with our very pleasant neighbours before heading off to the excellent local Thai. Good win, good company, good grub. Can't be beat.

I was there, we didn't create a lot and spent a long time going backwards, we barely seemed to get out of 1st gear. Barnsley played high up the line and were tough to get behind. I don't recall Green having to make more than a single real save. Until Hoilett came on we looked like no one would run at them and try anything. Niko had a bad day.

I was at the game...slightly worrying.....all possession 65-70%, but Ajax style, total football...without the cutting edge. Was worried that all the fannying around would amount to nothing..another 20-30 pass move today, came to nothing. BAE was sort of a different class/ or so laid back couldn't tell...that was worrying too.

HOILLET made the difference...he came on...we scored

But eventually we got it, a bit of penalty area pressure and in it went, followed by a penalty that was "worked" for...think Charlie was actually going away from the goal...but good conversion

...would have liked more passion, more cutting edge, throughout the match, but Barnsley certainly "parked the Bus", but just weren't good enough...others will be...

The linesman by R block was sh****, and it got to Austin a bit, that didn't help...when the Cheavaton (sic) came on...first real touch was a screamer, just over the bar...more like that...could be thea nswer.

    Celebrating with red wine

Decided, one of the best feelings in the world....leaving Loftus Road, with "Hi Ho Silver Lining" ringing in your ears

I'm struggling to come to terms with the amount of negative comments on here considering our start to the season.

We keep the ball.......they get knackered........we bring on someone like Hoilet to run at them........we get more and more on top........we win 2-0!!!!
As Watford said on another thread, we don't have to play at 100 miles an hour like the others in this league. More often than not, the team that keeps the ball wins the game.

Win our game in hand and we're 6 points clear of third!!

God help this board when we lose one, or even draw or concede a goal. Baffling!!

Great post, Col. I find it interesting that those that were willing to bury Redknapp at the start of the season for buying the wrong players are now criticising him for the mistakes he's going to make during the next close season.

We were very good. Probably a bit guilty of over playing it in midfield. But you had the sense that the team, the crowd, the management and our opponents knew we were going to win without having to get out of second gear. Patience was key today. When we couldn't conjure up an early goal, it was a case of keeping possession and moving the opposition about and wearing them down. Once they got tired we changed it a bit as we knew we would and eventually our quality would see us through.

I think we will see more of these tactics and style of play when an average side comes and parks the bus and proves difficult to break down. We still retain the capacity to step it up when and if we need to for the bigger teams.

Delighted with another hard fought win. Perhaps playing away from home for the next 3 games will allow us a bit more freedom to play. Maybe we will be pleasantly surprised. COYR's.

I agree. I am always more apprehensive when we are at home. Three away games - 9 points?
