I'm not sure if there are any proven PL strikers we could get, aside from Long. Who would do nicely actually. Nobody snapped up Philip Hosiner either, which is a shocker, maybe try get him in January if our strikers are misfiring. Livermore said after the game that the clause could be renegotiated if the club wanted him sooner. So I guess the ball is in Spurs court.
Scenario, come January we're somewhere around the 25pt mark and looking good to stay up. Blackburn are mid table, realistically looking out of the playoffs. Boom.......in for Rhodes. I know he's not proven but how many really well taken goals does he have to score, before people are convinced he's got what it takes to cut it at Prem level?
I don't think people think he can't cut it, it's just that nobody is willing to pay the £10m and £45k a week that you need to get him.
Barmby was only a bench player at the end of his career, when he first came to us he was the first name on the team sheet.
In January I think we will be back in for Shane Long plus A.N. Other striker - happy with other departments
The situation with Rhodes and Blackburn being ready to sell will depend on where they are in the league come January. With the new FFP FL rules now in place Blackburn may have to cut the wage bill or suffer sanction in May. I doubt Rhodes would want £45k to get to play in the PL and for his uncle. As for the £10m fee that could come out of next seasons PL money. Will Rhodes and Long be the Brady and Meyler(jan 2013) type of deals in 2014. ? Twt as always. Without a doubt and Long will be much cheaper on the transfer fee.
