There was one idiot (and I don't use this word lightly) in particular last night sat about four rows behind me who really did my head in! Every time somebody made a misplaced pass - usually Tettey or Johnson - this muppet was screaming "SORT IT OUT HOOTUN!" or sometimes "SORT IT OUT HOOTUN YOU PRICK!!" and even a couple of times "SORT IT OUT HOOTUN YOU C--T!!!" and on one occasion he told him to "F--- OFF BACK HOME!!!!". Perhaps I've missed something, but how on earth can the manager be blamed for his central midfielders not being able to make a fairly routine pass to a team-mate no more than twenty yards away? Honestly, some people shouldn't be allowed within half a mile of a football stadium on matchdays. Had we not have turned the game on it's head as we did then he would have been the enduring memory from last night's experience and I'm certain I don't pay my money to hear tossers like he spitting his ignorant vitriol.
I know no-one likes getting involved, but I would absolutely love it if someone gently, but firmly, explained that the only people being a "prick", "c--t" or other expletive used were this particularly breed of moron.
there was a guy at the everton game berating 'bennett' for 'hogging the ball' and 'being ****'. eventually it was pointed out that his anger was actually being directed at nathan redmond, at which point, and i promise this is true, they said - "oh, i like him!" what???
I sat in the upper N&P last weekend and the level if idiot up there was incredible. Loads of complaining about Hughton and taking off redmond most of it complete rubbish. In fact the people sitting next to me were talking about how they were looking forward to Booing at the the end from about 65 minutes in. Was really winding me up. There was also some guy who kept shouting "pack your fcuking bags Hughton" Whilst I wouldn't like to sit up there every week it is a interesting view. Very good for seeing all the little runs the wolfy is making. Makes me think an upper tier on the Jarrold could be a nice place to sit.
......and our fans are generally regarded as the best in the Premier League. So what must it be like in the stands at other grounds? One dreads to think. Last night was incredibly vital from a psychological point of view and I sincerely hope that we can go to the Britannia on Sunday, score and get something, a point at least. Thrilled for Hosh Murphy by the way, could this be the catalyst for the season?
I generally think that we're only considered 'the best' by people in terms of the fact we pack out our stadium and have an excellent away following - not necessarily because of how vociferous we are.
I think it's are away fans who are well thought of and rightly so in my mind. The away games I've been to were always up and making noise. That tends to be the only time that other fans see what our support is like. Our ability to draw in a large crowd regardless of what the football is like can be viewed externally as positive but I sometimes feel lots of our fans just enjoy complaining.
And many on this board would say Bath that if they have paid their money then it is their right to express their feelings. I do get depressed though at the general negativity that is written and really do wonder what would satisfy some of them. I guess noone is given any time now and while for example I could see Di Canio been sacked I was staggered that he was gone after 5 games - particularly having saved them from doom last season. Then there is Wenger who after 1 game this year was for the chop.......it is all too daft for words.
Agreed. That stat says nothing about the strength of the league (how could it?) although I do agree it was the poorest for a few years. It does, however, say everything about our strength up until Christmas.
there were a number of factors which contributed to our poor run which occurred after a very difficult run of 4 games in 9 days last christmas, which included man city and chelsea. a run of four defeats which knocked confidence badly and a run which coincided with the losses of tettey and pilkington - both were key players during our great run of form last year. we lost our best player - ruddy - for 25 games too. yes it was a poor run and we should have pulled ourselves out of it earlier and things could have been handled differently but there were factors involved which may have made it harder. i said during the summer we would have finished 8th had ruddy stayed fit all season and i stand by that
Does that mean we'll finish eighth this season then? Whenever you talk about us this season your always so negative to "where we are as a club", "in transition" and not to expect anything but a struggle. So were going from a potentially eighth position (in your view) to a struggling Premiership side (which you have said), in one Summer, have the opposition improved on us that much despite us being one of the higher spenders. Do the these sides not have to bed in their signings like us? Sounds to me you think a certain person has made a few duff signings.
I don't see how a team can't be both a potential 8th place AND a struggling premier league team, Carrabuh? This league is incredibly tight at the bottom, just ten points or so separating 8th and relegation so it really doesn't need much in the way of luck to swing towards relegation or Europe. I take your point, but in context this concept of being in transition is not incompatible with a very successful season, purely because of the nature of the Premier League. And actually I would say that Swansea, Southampton have definitely improved on us and the newly promoted teams are closer than last year's because of the cash they've had to spend. Others like Villa, Sunderland, Stoke and Fulham have also signed a few players, but it's not yet clear how they measure up to us.
carrabuh, if you've ever bothered to read Super's posts properly, you will see that he has said time after time that our main aim is to finish 17th or higher to maintain our Premiership tenure!
You can't be an eighth placed team AND a struggling team (in the context of being Norwich City), you can be one or the other. If you believed us to be an eighth placed side, rave about amazing signings, AND think we have a fantastic manager, would you really expect us to be in a relegation struggle? I know I wouldn't. Anyway, Man U away it is.

No, but that's not what he said? It's pretty clear that what was meant is just a couple of injuries or bad luck can push you from eighth place to PL strugglers, which is patently true. I'm not sure about the signings being incredible, personally. I think they each have a lot of potential, but really only Fer has showed he's a genuine step up. Hooper looks ostensibly great, but we haven't seen him tested nearly enough. I think RvW is clearly a very good signing, but it hasn't paid off yet as he acclimatises. Redmond has been a live wire, but I think he is all potential at the moment and a long way off being consistently beneficial to the team. I actually think he has been overplayed already. Elmander is ok, Olsson hasn't had a look in. Has Superman been raving about them? I think people have been reasonably objective about it. I also don't think anyone has ever said Hughton is a fantastic manager. I think they've argued he's the best manager available for us, which is very different. I'm not sure he is - I have a feeling he's lost the fans permanently and has never quite been brave enough to set that right, but he's got c. 10 games to show us the other way. All I think the likes of Superman have said is they think the latter (I.e. that Hughton will come good) is very likely. Sounds to me like you're enjoying a bit too much straw-man arguing mixed with a healthy dose of hyperbole, Carrabuh!
