Regarding Di Canio... Let's face it, his appointment was universally seen as one of the biggest mistakes in football. Sure, some of the thicker pundits, such as Mickey Dim, talked-up his alleged ability to inspire players (although I've always believed that there is a very fine line, in some managers, between inspiring and bullying), but most of us suspected that he'd be far too much of a loose canon, and that he'd ultimately end up dividing the dressing-room. I strongly suspect that enough of the players have had a word with the chairman to let it be known that either the manager goes or they - the players - go.

I'll never understand why certain people keep getting a shot at managing any where near the EPL. Sparky, for instance; has he done anything other than consistently under-perform? Okay, so the lesson seems to have been learned with people like Mick McCarthy and Roy Keane, but duffers do regularly slip through the net.

Sparky did great for Blackburn and was respectable at City, despite the sacking. Fulham not great, QPR obviously awful. Jury is still out I'd say, seems to be doing okay at Stoke so far, who many people predicted for the drop.
Hughes will probably be given a fair bit of latitude at Stoke, as he's clearly changing the way that they play quite drastically. If he can avoid a relegation battle and get them playing football, then he'll get a decent amount of plaudits for it.
Must take issue with you over his time at City. With the money he had to spend and the squad he had, he was abysmal. Dull football and little idea of tactics. He was in a much better position that AVB is today, yet still managed to blow it. He'll do okay for Stoke in his first season with them, but then it will go rapidly downhill.
Ahh, but expectations changed at City in his time there. When he joined he was only meant to make them contenders for Europe - suddenly the club came into a tonne of money and the title was the goal. Mark Hughes was never going to be able to achieve that, he's not good enough. But I think he's a decent mid-table manager in the right circumstances, if I was a player I wouldn't mind Hughes as manager, he's a lot better than some of the others.
Probably not. He's tried to put his hat into the ring a few times over the years so must be open to coming back into management. I don't think he's willing to step down to an average Championship side though and I can't see any better clubs wanting to take a gamble on him now he's been out of the game for awhile.
