Had my ASUS for 3 years now. Can still play the new FM on it with ease, so that's fine with me. My bro got a Acer about the same time and had it repaired twice before buying a ASUS when it broke down the third time.

Biggest thing is monitoring heat; the one I have has adequate heat dissipation, and I've never seen the temperatures redlining even under heavy load, but that's not the case for a lot of them. Had an HP laptop before and it had no side vents, so even on a flat surface it created a wonderful pocket of warm air underneath itself and stifled dissipation more than a tad.

Thanks .

I had read that a modern lap top out performed a Traditional tower , seems I was reading the wrong stuff :-)

Towers will always outperform laptops, because they're far less complex...the big bits (monitor, tower, keyboard) are all discrete components rather than being fashioned into a single unit. And they are far easier to maintain; if I want to clean the inside of my laptop (which is essential to keeping them working well long-term, because dust and gunk really affects performance/heat dissipation), I need to remove roughly 500 panels and do it with a care normally reserved for brain surgery. If you want to clean a tower, you undo four screws and away you go.

BBC World Service reporter and Italian reporters both saying that Di Canio has been sacked.

Can't say I'm surprised but I'm not sure if it's the right decision. He'd bought all these players, it's his team and they need time to gel. I guess they've got to bring someone new in before it's too late but I think he should be given a few more games. Admittedly the way he handles the players etc isn't great but I don't think he's an awful manager personally.

I've just given away an overclocking ATX ASUS ATI Crossfire motherboard. It was beautifully made and innovative of its time, and although it's probably 6 years old it works absolutely perfectly. It was a real wrench to let it go because of its quality and for some of its features, but it is the oldest thing in the house, and a mate wanted a replacement PC. It runs an AMD Athlon 64 3200 and is perfectly fast enough to watch streaming live video, or edit home made videos, and it does it all quietly and coolly. Yes, it won't play the most complex graphics in bang upto date games, but it's good enough for 90% of people's uses. My mate is highly delighted with it.

Haha I know, I was taking the piss out of me being stupid enough to run my laptops into the ground!

Haha, there really needs to be more smilies for joking and sarcasm.

Ideally I'd like to have a desktop for gaming and that, and then a cheap laptop which I won't use for anything demanding. Someone give me £1000.

I'll lend you it with the same interest rates as Wonga.

Why in god's name are computers so expensive in the UK? I remember looking up prices for someone on here a few months ago, and the prices in GBP were virtually the same as they would be here in Canadian dollars...despite there being a 1.65:1 ratio for the actual currencies.

Same with everything really, we are a small Island so get mugged.

Yeah, we do seem to get ripped off. However we do get really cheap budget flights, so swings and roundabouts.
