Clattenburg? Bloody hell. At least the quality of our ref matches that of our side.

Excellent call from the linesman. Was just outside the area.

I hope no one says that was a red card offence because it wasn't.

It's a matter of opinion. When Luiz committed the foul Mikel was 5 yards closer to the Everton goal than Mirallas and Luiz. No one else was nearby. I think that's good enough to be classed as a clear goalscoring opportunity even though it's 60 yards from goal. No one was catching Mirallas. He'd have been clean through on the keeper. I think Luiz got lucky.

It wasn't the technology. It was Martin Atkinson.

EDIT: Having read more of the thread, I can see you worked that one out, Qwerty. :)

Truth is, the news broke three times, each time differently. Seconds after the event...

1] Sunderland score, the ball appearing to clearly cross the line, but the goal does not stand. Has Hawk-Eye buggered up..? The media does not tell us. Hence the first comments.

2] News breaks again. Hawk-Eye has signalled a goal, but Ref Martin Atkinson has over-ruled it. What's going on..? Are refs allowed to do this..? Again, the media do not tell us the truth. Hence further comments.

3] Hawk-Eye has signalled a goal. The ball has indeed crossed the line, but Atkinson has blown his whistle for a foul only split-seconds earlier. Truth at last. Guess how long it took for that to break..? Nearly 10 minutes, depending on the media people were tuned into. Further comments, some confused.

Now you know why people made the comments they did at the time. That old thing about hindsight and 20/20..?

Don't have a problem with the tech, just the squishy carbon/water-based bits. :)

Yeah, I'm with Q. For all the big circus about hawkeye, well the crossing the line is usually the easy bit, its everything building up to it that's down to interpretation.......so, in the words of a meh mortal, why bother?
Solves nothing & detaches L2 just another notch.

Yeah I understand the initial confusion, but it's frustrating when it's been explained already and people haven't bothered to read it :p

Well yes, that is undoubtedly true. But that's what you're there for, PSF. To bring light and truth, where possible. :)

Last year, all but two teams in the Prem averaged more than a goal a game.

In the early part of this season, only four teams -- Arsenal, Man City, Man U and Villa -- are averaging more that a goal a game.

Well, I'm astonished by that decision at the Sunderland game. OK, the ref blew before the ball got into the net, but why wasn't the Arsenal defender sent off..?

I can only imagine the referee was so absorbed by his error that he overlooked the details of the original offence.

Now two managers have talked to him about his diving. He should partner Tom Daley in the synchronised event.

Quite looking forward to this game. Liverpool are quite enjoyable to watch without the theatrics of Suarez.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching Suarez play, but the baggage just niggles at me during a game.

Yep, it feels like a weight is lifted off their shoulders in a way. They play with a lot more freedom, and as a team.
