Technology saves Arsenal!

Will be interesting to see that this evening. Hopefully it's really close so that the technology can be seen to have done its job really well. The last thing we need is that, having implemented the technology, it goes and makes an iffy decision. I have little doubt that Hawk-Eye can do the job. What I wonder is, will the signal get to ref 100% of the time..?

Blimey..! Just heard that Hawk-Eye gave the goal and ref Martin Atkinson didn't allow it. What's that all about..?

Maybe I worded it wrong but now that there's goal line technology assistant's don't have to make a call. If it was down the assistant a goal may have been given.

Ball was over the line, but Atkinson pulled play back for an earlier foul on Altidore. Had he played advantage it would have been a goal.

Yeah I should correct myself and say Mr Atkinson saves Arsenal!

Pradeep: The ref bottled it again at Sunderland .. goal and red card .. play the advantage.

God some people are thick. You can't allow a goal and send someone off for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity. <doh>

Understandable mistake Tom. I thought that when Hawk-Eye says it's a goal, it's a goal, ie. the ref doesn't get a final say.

Paolo De Canio is apparently going ape-****.

Apparently, Atkinson had blown for a free kick to Sunderland, before the ball crossed the line. So, that's the explanation.

I am so looking forward to his post match interview!

Garth Crooks is explaining the controversy quite well. Sunderland player through on goal after Arsenal committed a foul, but he scores. This season, refs have been playing the advantage and if it pans out they allow play to continue. If it doesn't, they bring the action back to the foul. To me, that's sensible. Atkinson blew up like a robot.

Hope John Hartson's cough isn't anything serious, given his history. He's had it for a few weeks.

So it turns out all that expensive technology hasn't improved the game, who'd have thunk.

I think some people need to make themselves aware of what actually happened before making comments like this.

(not just you Qwerty, but this was the latest in a string of comments like this from various people)
