Apart from the freaks of footballing nature that are Ronaldo and Messi that is utterly subjective. What about RVP, Aguero, Suarez?... three of the best on the planet.

And how would you compare it fairly anyway? We concede 3 to Bayern in 3 hours. Juventus conceded 4. Barcelona conceded 7. But I guess with us Bayern just weren't trying eh?

Read my previous posts cini, i am on your side here

Top 5... Bit lofty that, he's good but not better (or as good as) than:
Ramos, Poyul, Verane, Vidic, Ferdinand, Cahill, Luiz, Agger, Piqué, Badstubear (sp), Godin, the two current French internationals must be seen to be better than him otherwise he'd be in ahead of them and on top of that, there's most likely at least another 10 players, if not more, that are just as good if not better than him.. Still each to their own I guess.

The ones in bold... please, get real.

The others are all also top notch and Koscielny is in that bracket with them.

This guy will be superb if he is allowed to continue in the first team, he is the only youngster Jose has given a chance to and that was because he spit his dummy with Pepe, the lad is well worth watching.

Agreed, the lads got all you require and more to be not only a top defender but a top (world class) player!

In that case, using your logic, we can conclude that Suarez is no good.

Dang, if only we'd bought Sakho we'd be near the trophies like Liverpool.

Number one, have you ever looked at Suarez's career stats? maybe you should take a look!

Number two, have I said Liverpool will win anything this season or that our CB partnership is in the top of europes? NO

Number three, your team has shipped the same amount of goals as all three promoted teams so far this season! you do the math

All are either captains of their country, regulars for their country (before retiring themselevs), regular league winners, world cup and European cup winers, CL and Europa Cup winners, all have contributed to the success of their teams, your lad, who's good, helped arsenal to the 2nd best defence trophy and 4th place trophy last year, sure his grand kids will love hearing the story of the 2012/13 season.

So the 2nd best defence last season is 'shabby', and with an additional class centre back we'd end up with a centre back pairing that might make it into the top 15 in europe? <whistle> Do you have sensible football discussions here ever?

Its all great keeping clean sheets against mid table rubbish at home but when it comes to big games Arsenal's defence always finds a way to implode.

Your defence is ****e and make vital mistakes in big games. That's why you never win anything, and yes, your defence is 'shabby'.

Btw, your defence is horrendous.

This is a poor argument, what a player wins is all down to the team he plays for not how good a player he is.

I guess you could get a few free loaders in some teams, but these players have "contributed" to their respectives teams succes and at one stage were/still are world class.

From my own team, John O`Shea, Wes Brown, they have many medals/titles between them. They were not freeloaders, they performed for the team but were never world class. As i pointed out, there are others who were world class who played for poorer teams who have nothing to show for it. A players medals are not the way to judge him.

Well if you can't do it on results then you have to do it on stats! see link below

Verm and sagna both in the top error prone players list (leading to goals) for last season, notice also Riena and Skrtel in the same list :emoticon-0105-wink::emoticon-0105-wink:

Your definition of a currently top class centre back is anyone who was ever a regular for their country or has won trophies?

In that case lets change our transfer targets to John O'Shea, Bobby Moore, Steve Bruce, Tony Adams and Toto Schillaci.

RVP - never won a trophy at Arsenal, must have been rubbish
Bale - never won a meaningful trophy at Spurs, must have been rubbish

We dropped him. Hasn't played a game for months. Is about to get chopped as captain as well if rumours are to be believed. Solid backup though.

Not at all, the fact that they won something, which after all is something they are paid to achieve and who knows, with a bit of ambition, would want to win anyway, is an added bonus to compliment their undoubted talent/ability.

Anyway, anyone can twist anything anyone may say, I'm just saying that in MY OPINION, your chap, whilst being good, is in MY OPINION not top 5 defender material, far from it!
