Could we see a repeat of the 2011/12 season?

Some people will think I'm crazy, but I think there are decent omens that we might see a season like the 2011/12 season.

In the 2011/12 season, despite what our points total was, we didn't really play all that well and consistently until the final 3rd of the season.

We played ****e, but scraped 1-0/2-1 wins due to quality. Our defence was organised well at home, and we got through on moral and quality, not great performances.

Our squad is better than it was back then.

I know from last season and what has gone on with the transfer window that we're all a little bit negative, but I'm personally optimistic.

Remember how negative we were when Carroll, Barton and Nolan were sold? We were probably more negative than we are now. They were our 3 best players at the time.

I really see the Coloccini and Mbiwa partnership being tough to break down for most teams, especially with pacey CM's in front of them.

I see a lot of disappointment when it comes to cup runs, and I see us having our bad spells, but I think we could beat in for a season that we didn't expect. Just maybe!

If we get a good result at Villa, then I could see us going on a good run.

Don't think you're crazy at all, a bit deluded like me perhaps, but I put that down to the meds.

Seriously though I don't see why we can't as long as the team stick together and play as well as they can.

That's the big question along with Pardew being more tactically astute and putting the right players on the pitch

Ok, we're p***** off that we didn't bring anyone in, but, I agree with you and don't think the squads as bad as some are saying, and its better than what we had at the beginning of last season and arguably 11/12 as well.

You say about the negativity when Nolan and Barton left, but, a lot of fans were glad to see the back of Barton, and with the players brought in that summer, Nolan was soon forgot about. Since that summer, the only player of real consequence to leave has been Ba, and you can see Remy making up for him.

if we can get going and pick up points, I can see us doing well, probably not a 5th place again, but at least being competitive.

We never had a run of games last season. You never know what a few back to back results will do - Fulham was the first time I remember for a while we put in a decent performance both halves and won the game. I don't remember that happening last year.

Maybe we will have a decent season, 5th is a pipe dream though, the top 5-6 are too strong. 7th would be a cracking season, top 10 good considering the league strength.

I think most of us would be quite happy with a top ten finish after the near relegation last season.

We've got quite an easy start to the season in the next 7 games i see 5 games we can get results from. If we're in the top half after 10 games we'll have a decent season we always do well when we get off to a good start.

No.

However maybe the lack of activity all a cunning plan by Ashrick to harbour some creative tension.
Or maybe he is just a gambling tight ****

I hope you're right, but I really don't see it.

We will concede 4 at Villa... with a solitary reply.

Can you get me some of crazy **** you are smoking?? It must be really strong to create such strong hallucinations mate<badger>

Like most seasons and most clubs outside the top 6, there's really no reason why NUFC shouldn't be challenging for 7th place and higher.

The 2011/12 season just goes to show that with a little bit of momentum and the addition of the right player(s) at the right time can allow you the mix it with the big spenders in this league. It's such a massive shame we didn't cash in on our fortunate year and buy that next level of player to compliment what we already had....

What would have been nice is not having a fcking Intl break three games in. You just want to get going and see how it develops. All for having a break, but why not Oct/Nov instead - the players have only just started and straight away the FA/FIFA breaks up the flow. Or they should look to stick a bunch of Intl fixtures in at Xmas. Takes the place of a proper break, doesn't split out the rest of the season, and so on. Not sure why I'm babbling on about this, but hey ho.

Again no way we will repeat it for the simple reason we have been screwed with no strength and depth after the starting 11 and we will pick up injuries.

Not for me, we would need to get really lucky with injuries and hope to play teams when they are missing key personnel or are out of form.

Mid table with no fear of relegation is a possibility though.

It is the FA/FIFA you're talking about, a lot of old fuddy duddies that know sod all about football and are just in the 'Old Boys Club' for the money they can get out of it.

We didn't really get any luck with injuries in that season though. We had a bad spell and at one point had to play Simpson and Perch as our CBs <yikes>
