Going back on topic (admittedly a January transfer rumour/thought)
What do you lot think of Alonso in Jan? He'll be over his injury, be the sort of DM we need (the game has moved on from proper bruisers), and Wenger loves him. Admittedly he'll take superman's spot in the team, and yes, he is 31, but such a class act and out of contract at the end of this season, so will probably be fairly cheap.
We are really stacked in the midfield now, but I would still love it if we signed him for under 8 million.
Bit depressing I'm already discussing the next transfer window, but özil's signing has simply left me hungry for more

Maybe a few years ago, but I think Flamini is going to make that DM position his over the next two or three years.

While he is a quality player, he is 31 and is on silly wages (100k+) we have Flamini and arteta for now. If the Ozil signature is a statement of intent then we should be looking at a WC DM/CM - Bender (either) and the like. If we are going for old and quality I would rather take a crack at De Rossi.

AC didn't lose a game in the league, with him in the team, the whole second half of the season. The game they lost, he was suspended for a red card.

Honestly I think we are well set right now. If we can get through the next bit until Podolski, Areteta and Vermaelen are ready, with no more serious injuries we will be in great shape.

Flamini is a good addition but we will have to wait and see how he'll adjust to life back in the Prem. The Italian league is very different and he is 29 right now, hopefully he'll be able to keep up like he used to but the Prem is a very physically demanding league, and even better than the last time he played in.

The Flamster will cope. He's known for his energy, high workrate etc. He'll adapt fast & I have a very good feeling about him. With him, Ozil, Cazorla, Merts, Sagna in the team there's a LOT of experience over a long time, which is EXACTLY what Arsenal have been lacking.

Add Theo in there as he has quite a bit too now and they're on their way.

Alonso is pretty similar player to Arteta, slightly better but not enough to need a replacement. If we're buying another midfielder I would hope it's a mr. muscle

Hope you're right, if he plays the same way he usually does, then we'll be a laughing.

I personally think our best team does'nt include Flamini.

But he's a good player to have in tough away games and as someone to bring on to add some urgency/defensive stability.

    Definitely a good signing.

    Why not Bear?

I'd say the best team atm includes Flam, Ram, Ozil...Theo, Giroud, Caz.

I think Arteta deserves his place in the squad more. He's one of the best DMs in the league at tackling, intercepting and passing.

Agreed, Arteta has done little wrong for us and doesn't deserve to be displaced. It's good to have options!

Firstly because Wenger has kinda abandoned the idea of playing with a DM. He wants a more mobile three in the middle all capable of interchanging.

Arteta and Rosicky still have alot to offer and Ramsey is currently enjoying the best form of his career.

But the main and most important reason is Wilshere. I mentioned this in another thread but I can guarantee that as long as Wilshere is fully fit Wenger will play him.
    The reasoning is simple: Potential.
He seems to think the young Englishman can develop into a 'World Class' TOP TOP level midfielder If he stays fit and gets a good run in the team. (I happen to agree with him too) Wenger will play him to make sure he developes correctly. Even if that means someone in better form misses out.

Just look at Walcott he was a team regular even when his contribution was inconstant (same with Fabregas). Now we are starting to see the benefit of this with Walcott getting 21 Goals and 10 assists last Season.

The same will happen to Wilshere who has considerably greater potential.

He definately has it, but I think we need to use him more sparingly. With a better midfield, we are now able to rest him at regular intervals and manage his injuries better. This can only be beneficial to us and to his development. The last thing we want is to burn him out.

The mods can check if 2 people post from the same IP address - and so show that 2 posters are in the exact same location. In theory they could be, say, father and son and fail this test.

Bless him, Ensil tried this once, getting into a very funny apology of son apologising for using Dad's account. Didn't fool anyone. I think that is the extent of their powers on this?

Whatever happened to Ensil? I kinda enjoyed his excruciating arrogance.

The great thing about the Ozil transfer is it shows intent and can help make way for more big names additions.

Suarez, Rooney, Benzema ..Wenger should be keeping an eye on them.

Bingo. The Ozil transfer means a lot more than just having a great player on the pitch for us. Bringing in not only a top player but one of the best in the world is a huge statement to make. I agree, a lot of the top players will now be thinking of Arsenal as a very viable option.
