David Craig's just been on SSN apparently we've enquired about Tom Ince, which we all knew anyway. Why wait till the last day obviously not going to happen now spurs are apparently in for him + they've said they'll loan him back for the rest of the season which basically rules us out

Beyond a joke. Tom Ince, subject to an ACCEPTED £8m bid. You know the fee, you know the player, you either sign him or you don't. I'd just like to know, for certain, what the club is thinking about? Is it bluff and bluster to try and fool the fans? Is it genuine incompetence?

The whole "we'll buy if we sell Cabaye" - does that mean ANY player? What happened to all the TV money, the £15m for PEA, the £8m for Gomis? Or does it mean a replacement?

The only saving grace is that in 14 hours we'll know.

0858:
THE VIEW FROM FRANCE

French football writer Matt Spiro: "Marseille are often wheeling and dealing, and they're likely to be busy today.

"At one stage, it looked as though they would need to sell André Ayew in order to finance a £12.7m deal for Lille's Florian Thauvin - and Newcastle have expressed a strong interest in the Ghanaian. That, however, is no longer the case. They received an unexpected injection of £4m after Lyon failed to make the Champions League group stage, meaning the domestic television revenues for that competition are being split between two rather than three clubs."

This is interesting but again worrying when one is looking for players who aren't going to be present for the African Cup again. It must be possible to sign someone with EU citizenship who won't vanish every second year.

How about the likes of Jean-Alain Boumsong?
As it happens, I was thinking about Titus Bramble...

Anyone else think we should have been in for Amalfitano? WBA have got him on loan for the season, decent player and could cover wide right or through the middle.

where's Joe now

recovering from a massive hangover for the next 24 hours
after Mike presents him with a £50 booze voucher for all his efforts
I suspect

Would take more than £50's worth of booze to give JK a massive hangover.

Sky claiming Pardew isn't even expected at Benton. Why would he talk so much about bringing in a "key player"? Surely there has to be ONE arrival today??

Pardew keeping his head down, as he knew all along we were not going to do anything

why do you think Kinnear was brought in....... to take the ****

Reports on twitter that Pardew and Kinnear are in London. Ashley is reported to not even be in the county <laugh>

Edit:I have zero confidence that we'll bring anyone in.

GOMIS BLOW FOR NEWCASTLE

"Newcastle will not be signing Bafetimbi Gomis from Lyon today. They have tried twice to sign the striker this summer, but without luck.

"Having also attempted to sign Darren Bent, who chose Fulham, it has been a frustrating transfer window for all those at St James' Park. There have been no further bids for Yohan Cabaye but that may change if Arsenal miss out on Mesut Ozil."

Well, Ozil's off to Man U. So that means we'll have a Carroll mk2 situation. Kinda knew that would happen when Pardew basically said if we sell Cabaye, we MUST MUST MUST replace him. Follows that, of course, we won't replace him.
