I like Sigurdsson - really rate him. He'd be a good fit for us in a CAM role.

Excellent player who would fit in well and has a good scoring rate for an AM, but he cost Spurs £8.8m so he wouldn't come cheap. Holtby would also be excellent on loan, but I wonder what wages both are on.

Apologies as it's not NCFC-related, but Eto'o to Chelsea. Could be just what they need - a proper talisman.

I do not relish playing them this season.

Once upon a distant time Torres was a talisman. They can fade and tarnish. <ok>

    Many thanks

Madliena Heights - so also a fan of Swieqi, although they're marginally less good than most British pub teams :) Grew up in Slimea and San Gwann though and as a kid became a Wanderers fan - Sliema not Wolves or Bolton!. Especially as their old social club was around the comer from our house!

Im a big fan of Sigurdsson, he would fit our need for an ACM perfectly. I wasn't aware that Spurs would let him go? Although it may be a fair assumption with the new signings that they are making. He definately started their first match though. As RiverEndRick says he is likely to cost a decent wedge though, £10m plus you would think. Holtby on loan may be interesting, I thought they rated him higher than Sigurdsson last year?

    Welcome Ruddy!

My sister-in-law lives in Tal-Il-Bragg - I go over once a year with the missus to see her family. Love the place - good to see a fellow Canary over there. OTBC !

Looking at the champion's league draw, Arsenal will surely need to spend to get through: Dortmund, Marseille and Napoli is a very tough group. Celtic with Ajax, AC Milan and Barcelona aren't much better off either!

For some reason, all of the groups look tougher than ever! Groups C and G are probably the easiest. I agree Arsenal have been drawn a nasty one though I don't think Napoli are quite as good as they used to be even though they signed well (I suppose the Benitez European effect may bite me there), but I don't think Man U's is that easy either. I'd say City have been quite lucky, though, because they have a good chance of finishing second.

Not far away at all! Well, assuming she lives somewhere near the supermarket!

Quite a few Norwich fans in Malta! Man Utd though are by far the most popular English Club - it's simply amazing how many people, young and old, still adore Bobby Charlton. Also Gary Neville, as he has a couple of houses here (one in Malta and one in Gozo) and has done quite a lot of work for the Maltese Tourism Authority.

Thank you to everyone for the great welcome!

    Also elbowing in.

I lived in Malta for 18 months not so long ago. St Paul's. I really liked the lifestyle there. Laid back, not much corporate crap, all the shops in St Paul's still closed for a siesta in the middle of the day, not many MacDs and Starbucks and KFCs. I miss it a lot.

I guess you're right and good players often have egos. The key thing is whether that ego gets in the way of their development as a player (i.e. whether they put in the work or not). Don't know about Toivonen on that score. Something about him makes me twitchy. (OK, before you tell me, I have absolutely no reason or evidence for this.)

Although Grant Holt had an ego, I think he sublimated it on the pitch and used it for the good of the side. That's the kind of ego you want.

On the other hand, Bentley ...

Think there's 8 McDonalds here plus one in Gozo, part of the Arkadia supermarket mall. Quite a lot really in an island only 17 x 9 miles! And the streets of Valletta, especially, suffer for it from the Scandinavian and German teenagers who come here to learn English. I grew up here, moved back to the UK for university but came back a few years ago. Magical (but expensive) place to live - apart from St Georges and Qawra/Bugibba!. But then I live not to far away from St Georges (on Madliena Ridge), but then nowhere is really far from anywhere here!

Exit Celtic, possibly with 3 points or less.

Brief snippet from Paddy's EDP columh today - CH is keen for JB to go oout on loan and get some game time - “It has been tough for him (JB) in that respect but he is very much part of this squad." He is still interested in making some more aitions to the squad an would llike to see some of his other 'fringe players' to go out on loan.

the loan window opens after the transfer window from memory, i'm sure we'll see one or two go out on loan like last season, butterfield by the sounds of things and maybe Fox and / or Becchio

Yes, I missed the first bit in his interview. It certainly sounds like something may yet happen in the final days:

Meanwhile, on James Troisi (pronounced tro-eesee, by the way), there are three videos on youtube for those who want to know more about him. Two are compilations which show a reasonable range of his midfield play including passing and crossing. The third is a Today Program feature on his background and career from Newcastle through to Atalanta. I found them very interesting anyway.

Possibly, but we still don't really know the facts there. My interpretation is that he was looking out for his family by getting long term security - albeit he went about it in the wrong way perhaps.
