Is cricket the most ridiculous game in the world? Four days of boredom and rain and suddenly from nowhere comes a bit of excitement and then with about 15 minutes of play left with either side equally capable of winning or a draw perhaps and what do they do - they abandon play. Was it beyond them to fix the hours of play so that the game would end before night came?

<cheers> Dave, sorry I can't return at the moment.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to canary-dave again.

If the Premier League thinks it can maintain an international reputation for exciting football it will have to hope there aren't too many repeats of tonight's Man U/Chelsea game. Seems it was pretty dire...

Could not agree more -what are the point of the floodlights?

Morning all from a misty start to the day in West West London - hopefully the sun will peep through a bit later. Looking forward to tomorrow and my first game of the season at The Vic...

Could not agree more -what are the point of the floodlights?

Fielders can't really see the red ball that easily under floodlights if it's coming towards them from the background of the crowd as floodlights are designed primarily for the white ball game and are tested accordingly. This means that the reduced light comes under the definition of dangerous conditions. The problems with seeing the ball are also applied to the batsmen and keeper if the bowler bowling that over is quick, and tall enough that the release point of the ball is unseen as it appears to be coming from above the top of the sightscreen.
